Driving from one end of the country to the other with Canada early in the mix, why can I not ship a handgun to myself en route? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/driving-from-one-end-of-the-country-to-the-other-with-canada-early-in-the-mix-why-can-i-not-ship-a-handgun-to-myself-en-route

I've already gone through an extended background check to attain my CCW and am the legal owner of the handguns, so why would I need another background check to pick them up? Yet due to not being a resident of the states I am passing thru I cannot even pick them up because it's technically purchasing them and states can't sell to out of state residents. I'm not about to take the ferry again either. Suspect it has to do with all the different laws in each area you are passing thru. After some more research, I just came across the way to do so... One is able to ship to oneself using FedEx or UPS, I.C. (In Care) of if need be, just use an FFL on either the shipping or receiving end. Every time that a HANDGUN is shipped from state to state, in that it crosses the state line, it is considered to be "Inter-state" as opposed to "Intra-State". Federal law prohibits the shipping of a handgun from individual to individual crossing state lines, because of the possibility of a Straw Purchase. Just because you address your gun to yourself at your new base, that does not preclude an agreement between you and someone else that is not allowed to have a handgun, by federal or state law from reaching an agreement for them to intercept the package and then they have a handgun.

THE ONLY LEGAL WAY move that handgun is either:
1) Hand carry it...This means you must comply with all the laws for each and every jurisdiction that you cross. National "Peacable Travel" laws have not been passed, Thank you Comrad Obama. This also means that if you cross into a COUNTY of Metro area that prohibits handguns, even though you have a carry permit, are in the military and are just passing through, you are subject to arrest and confinement, not to mention confiscation of your handgun and weapons violation charges. Not worth the hassle especially if you have to cross into New York or Canada.

2) Find a local gun dealer WITH A FEDERAL FIREARMS LICENSE and arrange for a Dealer to Dealer transfer of your firearm. This may cost you on average 50 bucks, but the gun will be there before you are. I do these every day. Shipping of handguns normally costs 25-35 bucks plus up to 50 for the hassle and paperwork. Handguns also MUST go Next day or Second day at the slowest. Your gun will beat you to where you are going. This is simple, easy and LEGAL in all 50 states.
