At a town hall meeting in New Hampshire on Thursday, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said he would consider one man’s request that America “get rid of” Muslims.

The White Plains, New Hampshire, man was the first to ask a question at the event.

“We have a problem in this country,” he began. “It’s called Muslims. We know our current president is one.”

“Right,” Trump responded.

“You know he’s not even American,” the man continued.

“We need this question, this is the first question,” Trump said with a laugh.

President Obama is a Christian and was born in Hawaii. Trump, however, has for years fed conspiracy theories that Obama was born in Kenya and is not eligible to be president.

At Thursday’s town hall, the question continued to more broadly include other Muslims in the U.S.

“We have training camps growing where they want to kill us,” the man said. “That’s my question: When can we get rid of them?”

“We’re going to be looking at a lot of different things,” Trump said. “A lot of people are saying that, and a lot of people are saying that bad things are happening out there. We’re going to be looking at that and plenty of other things.”

Later, in a statement to the Washington Post, Trump said his answers were more about defending Christians in the U.S.

Trump’s answer stood in stark contrast to the reaction John McCain had as a Republican presidential candidate at a town hall in Minnesota in 2008. At that event, he admonished a woman who said Obama was “an Arab” who couldn’t be trusted in the White House.

Saying “no ma’am,” McCain would not let her finish and seized the microphone.

“He’s a decent family man — citizen — that I just happen to have disagreements with on fundamental issues, and that’s what this campaign’s all about.”

I am yet to be shown any Muslim training camps in the USA. As far as Trump correcting this clown he probably should have. The guy was wrong. Now saying that, According to Muslim Law, Obama is indeed a Muslim. However not one of us knows what is truly in his heart. And there is no proof that Obama is not an American as alleged....

To whoever posted this, you're making my day. Thanks! As far as getting rid of "Muslim" extremist training camps, how would Mr. Solve-it-all get rid of the Christian extremist or Anti-government extremist camps or the skin color extremist camps, or the ignorant congressional lobbyist camps, or better yet, get rid of two of the most ignorant extremist camps in America right now...the Democratic and Republican camps? Impress me Sir. And I give McCain respect; he handled that heckler like a professional MAN not a politician.

Questions like this really make me pine for the days when we had real journalists in America. I've heard rumors of Muslim/Terrorist training camps in America but not any reports that I could trust. How wonderful would it be if journalists did their jobs like they once did, for example like Woodward and Bernstein did in exposing the Nixon scandal. Yes, we know of other examples of training camps for belligerents including right-wing and left-wing groups. Thus, I wouldn't be surprised if the ones in question here existed. But, as I said, I have no definitive knowledge of them, at least none that I can trust...

I don't think Trump has any particular like or dislike for Muslims or he would be talking about them. He likes to talk about people he doesn't like. So any Muslims waiting for apologies will have to get in line behind the Mexicans and the women waiting for hell to freeze over.

There are many articles on this but none from an official source. If there are many of them surely they would have been exposed by now. And I agree Trump did not say that. I got the impression that he didn't understand the comment and blew it off not realising the results.

I'm not a Trump apologist, but I would argue that any objective analysis of this interaction does not lead one to such an assertion. Trump was clearly attempting to humor this guy and dismiss his question. He did not asset that he would "get rid of Muslims", or even look into it.

Again, I'm not a Trump fan, but I do appreciate reality, and it is clear that Trump, in this instance was trying to blow this guy, and his question off. I would suggest that attempting to argue otherwise is either/or partisanship, or demagoguery

Rhetoric like his only appeals to and attracts a particular set of people. If you are surprised by this you haven't been paying attention. Say what you will about Senator McCain but when a similar regressive type made the same statement at one of his rallies he had the decency to shut it down quickly. He could like Trump have chosen to agree with it but he was matured enough and conscientious enough to know that coddling racists wasn't worth it even if it would have given him a bump in the polls.

Because they are Muslim, we have to watch them and be real careful with their feelings, but no one said anything when it was a Christian camp, Oh how people forget little things like the Branch Davidians in Waco TX. We had no problems shooting them up, but again, since they were Christian, then no big deal, Or Ruby Ridge another Christian "Cult"
