SGT Jeremiah B. If Trump goes Third Party, yes I can see the Perot like affect circa 1992. That would be ironic if Hilliary won the same way as Bill. At least we will get a vote, unlike many countries...

SGT Jeremiah B. - Are you talking about Ross Perot? If so I thought he had a very good chance if he stayed the course of being president.

SSG Warren Swan - I think he did, but we'll never know. Unfortunately, "billionaire independent" is about where their similarities end.

Utterly and disastrously unqualified. 4 Bankruptcies, an enormous self-serving ego and a complete inability to understand that half the crap he's promising is far beyond his power to control.

i will rephrase....see a pattern in the last 25 years or so? Dems generally no longer serve. At least the ones in high office

Sgt (Join to see) - You're being awfully selective in your sample size. Clinton dodged and Obama simply didn't serve, but those are generation issues, not political ones. It's not like the GOP is fielding a bevy of veterans against a bevy of Non-vets. Hell, the ratio of vet to non-vet was exactly the same on both sides in this election's candidate slate.

I know plenty of people who are Obamas age that served. It is political, Democrats generally do not serve. Clinton dodged but plenty didn't dodge. You seem to be giving a pass based on the other people did it argument. I went all the way back to Warren Harding. I don't think my sample size was small.

Sgt (Join to see) - I'm sure you do know plenty of people Obama's age that served. So do I, but I'm guessing we both come from strong military communities and families so who we know isn't a representative sample. They are still a very small portion of the population (approx. less than 2%). You'll see the same thing the last time we had a long dry spell - A bunch of presidents in a row that were not veterans because there was no major conflict when they were of military age.
As for Clinton, I'm not giving him a pass as much as pointing out that it only seems to really matter when the person is a political opponent.
There's DEFINITELY no pattern if you go back to Harding. 3 Dems, 3 Repubs with the edge going to the Democrats as FDR was denied service rather than avoided it. Go back one more to Wilson and it's 4/3, but again, FDR wasn't a non-vet by choice.

Anyone that disrespects a veteran with a Purple Heart and was a POW, is not, nor will ever be, fit to serve as a the Commander in Cheif.
