Does the Army determine your SRB based on the previous/current ETS date? Or, do they look at the total time of reenlistment on your contract?

I reenlisted in MAR 2017 for 6 years and was awarded a SRB under Milper message 17-029 (tier 5 for 31D SGT). This was a condition of reclass from 68W to 31D. I received the SRB under tier 5 for 36-47 month reenlistment, although I reenlisted for 72 months.

This is my second reenlistment and , prior to this reenlistment, my ETS date was AUG 2019. My current ETS date is MAR 2023.

For any who can answer, does the ARMY determine your SRB based on the previous/ current ETS date? Or do they look at the total time of reenlistment on your contract?

I would address the issue with a career counselor but I'm in in between units currently. Thanks in advance!

Your SRB is calculated based on the time from your old ETS date to your new ETS date

You had already made a promise to serve the Nation until August 2019. With the new contract you were getting a bonus for making a new promise. Should Uncle Sam be paying you extra to keep your old promise?

SRB Payments are based off of Additionally Obligated Service (AOS)... new promises. Although the new contract starts the day you sign it, there are only 42 additional months between AUG 2019 and MAR 2023. Make sense?
