Does AR 670-1 regulate the height of pt shoes? I found nice Nike running shoes that are up just past the ankle bone so I was just curious

I can't recall anything prohibiting it, and admittedly on this four day weekend I'm too lazy to look. Sorry, I'm not much help. ;)

Only part of 670-1 that applies :

"Commanders may authorize wear of commercial running shoes with calf-length or ankle-length, plain white socks (no logos). If worn, ankle-length socks must cover the entire ankle bone. Shoes must accommodate all five toes in one compartment. Those shoes that feature five separate, individual compartments for the toes detract from a professional military image and are prohibited for wear with the APFU or when conducting physical training in a military formation"

BLUF: Commanders discretion when not specifically covered.

It's been awhile, however I believe the commander gets to authorize your running shoes IAW 670-1. That said, it's called uniformed services for a reason. If no one else is wearing them, I'd advise against it. If you do see them being worn by others for PT and your commander has authorized them, go for it... just understand that a change in your chain of command could alter your ability to wear them for PT.

It's up to your commander, but do you really want to have to explain to every other person everyday that you wear them that they are intact running shoes and you are in fact allowed to wear them. The juice doesn't seem worth the squeeze here.

I'd recommend being in uniform. Being different as SFC Willis mentioned, you are just asking to be a target.

I try to never pay over $40-$50 for running shoes. I also try to not wear shoes that will make anyone roll their eyes or do a double take.
