Does anyone know of anyone who had their firearms seized?

So I just saw on Fox News this "Red Flag" states where authorities can seize firearms if they believe a person is a threat to themselves or the public. Does anyone know of anyone that this has happened to, I live in one the Red Flag states. I can't wait to move to Texas or Cali(also a red flag state probably not moving there now).

Id also look into who has had them seized and returned vs. seized and not returned. That would be the biggest concern in my opinion.

Not here in NC. This would save many more lives if it was based on taking automobiles away from drunk drivers!

Yeah, it would be terrible to live in a state where the authorities would have been able to seize the weapons from the FL school shooter based on all the red flags he exhibited before he actually used them. The laws also provide for quick hearings and due process. It's much better to live in a state where authorities have no ability to seize weapons until after they are used. /Sarcasm

In Cali it depends on the county you move to Sgt Adrian Jones. For example the sheriff of my town refuses to disarm his citizens. Most of norther California Counties excise this rule. I’m sure that is also what applies in other red flag states. Hope that helps.

Sgt Adrian Jones The Washington Post has an article about the laws. According to the article California is one of the five states that allow this seizure. It also states that it has to be ordered by a judge. Though in the states listed, I doubt that a local judge would not sign off on it. It also states that it is a TEMPORARY seizure when someone poses a threat to themselves or others. What I want to know is first off, what burden of proof is required for such a seizure to occur, how long is temporary, what process is in place for a person who has this action taken to redress the issue? I know when purchasing a firearm, they ask "under penalty of perjury" if a person is addicted to drugs or alcohol. So the background check is already being enhanced to reduce the likelihood of an unstable person from acquiring a firearm through legal channels.

I think most "Red Flag" laws are fairly new (at least the modern version of Red Flag type laws) historically speaking. Time will tell the tale as to just how liberally they get applied, but as for me, the only guy I know who got his gun taken away was an old friend who went to prison for murder, so...yeah.

There have been several vets with mental health issues that were, are the VA told the authorities, asked to turn them in, or suffer.

I believe the state laws require a court order.
