The job I had at the time of retirement back in 86 the politics of the nursing staff at the hospital I worked at was set against me. I was NCOIC of nursing education. As such any time any of our organizations on the base deployed I:E Security, 3rd Combat Communications Group, Civil Engineers, I was sent with them as their only medic on site. As a certified American Heart Association Instructor it was my job to recertify our staff in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation and Advanced Cardiac Life Support. Who says there is no politics in the military has never worked with nurses. If we hit 33 million that is 1 in 10 Americans who contracted COVID and our deaths will be near 548,000. It is not going to destroy our country, but I do think this represents a lot of suffering. We lost 400,000 in WWII and 675,000 in the 2018 influenza. I worked in national disaster relief in the army, but I will keep my thoughts to myself. However, on paper it also makes much more sense for service members to bail on an employer that puts them through a lot more BS relative to the same economic incentives that can be found in the civilian sector for a lot less nonsense. <br /><br />2018 will probably be a wake up call to personnel numbers when those who entered 10 years ago realize much of their retirement is mobile and what they leave behind can realistically be recouped in the civilian sector. I went with my wife to Planet Fitness, twice, and walked the treadmill for 20 minutes. And giving me an NCOER full of words which don&#39;t actually mean anything.<br /><br />I don&#39;t miss being told that if I prefer to focus on expertise rather than leadership, I am a worthless piece of shit.<br /><br />I don&#39;t miss being told that anyone who doesn&#39;t WANT to lead - doesn&#39;t CRAVE being in front of troops is both mentally deficient and incompatible with military service.<br /><br />I don&#39;t miss being promised things in exchange for volunteering only to be denied them once the mission was complete and denigrated as greedy for even bringing up what I was promised.<br /><br />I don&#39;t miss leaders telling me to support their decisions, but then refusing to admit they made the plans when things fail.<br /><br /><br />I do miss serving my country and helping Soldiers out. I try to continue my service to Soldiers by being active on RP&#39;s answers sections and doing little things for Soldiers in the local community (I retired near an Army post). And I am working towards a degree to continue my service in a completely different way.<br /><br />All that being said, when HRC was looking for folks to un-retire and help with COVID, I volunteered (and was evidently not needed). But I made it very clear that I was fat and out of shape and would NOT be complying with AR 600-9 or passing any kind of PT Test.
