I was a Coast Guard licensed "captain" before I even joined the Army (well, licensed operator of motor vessels for hire to be exact). I rose to the rank of captain before the Army had enough of me. And then Disney went and made a popular series of movies featuring Captain Jack Sparrow. I didn't stand a chance, did I? In my personal opinion I don't think rank should be a limit on ones task or purpose. It's what you did while you were in each rank. There may be a lot of Generals but I know more war heros that had greater backgrounds. In my Master's program, the few vets that are there had once (mostly) been officers, though I don't hold that against them. Beyond that I haven't run into too many other vets, so I haven't really had much of an issue. I only use it here because of the military nature of the site. I don't look at people differently because of their rank. I was a Corporal over 30 years ago. I've changed a lot since then. I was promoted to E-7 in 67 but in those days you were (t) for two years after the promotion. It would require I reenlist (I had a good job lined up), AND extent my tour in Vietnam again. In my live of work an E-6 was out with his team and an SFC had a clipboard. I saw a lot of good soldiers promoted to lousy supervisors.

Me in 1968 SSG Edward Tilton Fri, 28 Jul 2017 16:51:50 -0400 2017-07-28T16:51:50-04:00 2017-07-28T13:16:40-04:00
