I was a Coast Guard licensed "captain" before I even joined the Army (well, licensed operator of motor vessels for hire to be exact). I rose to the rank of captain before the Army had enough of me. And then Disney went and made a popular series of movies featuring Captain Jack Sparrow. I didn't stand a chance, did I?Response by CPT Jack Durish made Jul 28 at 2017 1:22 PM2017-07-28T13:22:32-04:002017-07-28T13:22:32-04:00SFC Private RallyPoint Member2776796

I kind of like being referred to as Sgt some times by those who knew me in the military. In my personal opinion I don't think rank should be a limit on ones task or purpose. It's what you did while you were in each rank. There may be a lot of Generals but I know more war heros that had greater backgrounds.Response by SFC Private RallyPoint Member made Jul 28 at 2017 1:30 PM2017-07-28T13:30:24-04:002017-07-28T13:30:24-04:00SPC Margaret Higgins2776817

SPC William Rogers: I never feel like I am stuck in the rank with which I left the service. In my Master's program, the few vets that are there had once (mostly) been officers, though I don't hold that against them. Beyond that I haven't run into too many other vets, so I haven't really had much of an issue.Response by SGT Dave Tracy made Jul 28 at 2017 1:36 PM2017-07-28T13:36:07-04:002017-07-28T13:36:07-04:00Cpl Jeff N.2777140

Nobody refers to me by my rank and most have no idea what rank I was when I was in. I was promoted to E-7 in 67 but in those days you were (t) for two years after the promotion. It would require I reenlist (I had a good job lined up), AND extent my tour in Vietnam again. In my live of work an E-6 was out with his team and an SFC had a clipboard. I saw a lot of good soldiers promoted to lousy supervisors.

Me in 1968Response by SSG Edward Tilton made Jul 28 at 2017 4:51 PM2017-07-28T16:51:50-04:002017-07-28T16:51:50-04:002017-07-28T13:16:40-04:00
