Bootcamp is a lifelong indoctrination and the saying: “Once you’re a Marine, you’re always a Marine," resonates a spiritual truth. I learned how to kill by various means and was impressed with the instructions. But being ignorant about the Navy’s FMS Hospital Corpsmen, I quickly learned to respect their training and dedication in saving lives--especially while under fire. After six years in the Corps, I joined the Air Force and became a surgical technician NCOIC at Utapoa AFB in 1968-1969, and later Air National Guard while attending college majoring in Medical Illustration and Human Anatomy. Not being able to obtain a commission in the Air National Guard (36 was considered too old for DoD) I perused the “Life Savers”, the U.S Coast Guard (not DoD) getting a commission as a reservist. My last day of a busy two-week active duty tour at Cape May, NJ, I was told to take a crew of four on a 14 footer to assist a sinking crab boat with men in the water. When we got there, the slowly sinking boat was on its side, and we began rescuing its crew. Once aboard our boat, and seated on our deck, they extended their hands to shake ours with each saying, “Thank you for saving my life.” And those gestures of gratitude were genuinely heartfelt as you could see it in their eyes. There’s nothing can compare in saving someone’s life. Killing can come easy, esp. if trained to do so. But saving someone’s life is more rewarding, and can be more difficult in the process. But I have no qualms in turning someone’s future around in a heartbeat--if necessary. Drinking from a human skull, however, only proves one's insecurities and disrespect for one's enemy.Response by LCDR Charles Hollingsworth, Jr made Dec 17 at 2016 11:23 PM2016-12-17T23:23:54-05:002016-12-17T23:23:54-05:00SSgt Private RallyPoint Member2169468<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Hi, Captain Boling.<br /><br />On numerous occasions and recently, I have threatened to do just that.Response by SSgt Private RallyPoint Member made Dec 18 at 2016 10:20 AM2016-12-18T10:20:58-05:002016-12-18T10:20:58-05:00SFC Pete Kain2169998<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Ready to close with and destroy...YEP. <br />Drink from a skull hell no. macho B.S.Response by SFC Pete Kain made Dec 18 at 2016 3:19 PM2016-12-18T15:19:15-05:002016-12-18T15:19:15-05:00SGT Jerrold Pesz2170996<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Only if the skull was real sanitary.
