Do you wear veteran apparel?

For those who are veterans (out of service, retired, or veteran of war) do you wear veteran apparel? Watching the Eagles playing tonight they showed some veterans at The Vietnam Wall and they were wearing vest and hats. I have seen many from Vietnam, World War II, and Korea War, but rarely anything from other wars. I have seen a few Gulf War but no OEF or OIF. I have worn a hat for OEF as well as t-shirts from my time overseas. What do you wear?

I only went to Kuwait for nine months I don't feel that I have then right to wear anything items that say I am a "deployed veteran". Even though the mission was in support of OEF

Most everyone in my office does wear veteran gear. I would, except that I have a horrible memory and forget. When I do remember, I wear my native hat with a small OEF pin my husband gave me. Other than that, I still have the issued green sweater I'll wear at home when it's cold.
My husband wears his 'infidel' hat along with a Ramadi pin and OIF pin.

I do, almost always. I do not. As I have seen suggested in other threads. Wear them to bring attention to myself. Although proud of my service and grateful for the acknowledgement. I wear these things to raise public awareness of the fact that there are service members out there everyday in harms way to protect them and our way of life. I feel that all of us who have served should do this in continuing support of those who are still serving. It is all to easy for the average American to forget what their liberty has cost, and continues to cost. Especially the affluent who benefit the most, but are the most removed from and blind to the sacrifices made.

I get the hats from family members all the time. I have at least a dozen "Desert Storm Vet" and "Navy Veteran" hats now. My Mother is retired Navy and she is big on the veteran apparel thing. She's also 100% disabled and the VAMC isn't just a medical center but also most of her social life too. She's all the time buying me something from the little exchange in the VAMC. I don't wear them very often because all i get are those high profile trucker hats...nobody wears those anymore except as a joke. LOL

I recently got another leather bomber jacket with a giant "NAVY" logo on the back for Christmas last year. I will put a bunch of my patches on it and wear it once a year on veterans day.

Anyway, those hats are on a bookshelf in my office with the boot camp company graduation photo and my "I love Me" wall.

I have a couple Army PT T-shirts that are in my home lounge wear rotation. Only at home though, I don't wear them outside. If I need to run an errand, I'll change into something else.

I still wear my old Navy sweat pants around the house. I also on occasion wear wounded warrior stuff, but its pretty much business casual all day until pajama time. On the rare occasion I go out of the house on the weekends I wear cargo pants and the aforementioned wounded warrior t-shirts.

I have several 'Army' items - jackets, tshirts... and several shirts and jackets with the logo of our Veterans group at work. My husband is a Marine, so when he wears his, I wear mine :) We've been stopped several times asking, "what's up with this?" its quite funny... Even more so when I'm out in my Army jacket and am asked if my husband is in the Army. Ummm, no, he's a Marine :) it usually takes several minutes for the light bulb to come on then... lol

I have a few Marine Corps shirts that I wear occasionally and I have a USMC flag/American Flag lapel pin that I wear but nothing OEF related. I do have an OEF vet tag on my truck and window sticker though.

I have a USCGC license plate from Oregon.
Mostly I wear ball caps, I have a couple that are Coast Guard related, that I wear on certain days.
But mostly I wear a ball cap from my college, Norwich University.
I do wear t-shirts representing the Coast Guard from time to time.

I do wear my Coast Guard Veteran pin as part of my dress/business suits, it made a good impression while I was in Japan.

I learned to hate hats, so they're out. The closest thing I will ware is my old boonie hat while mowing or working in the sun. I kept 1 set of ACU's, BDU's, A's, and my blues, the rest all went to the surplus store the day before I retired.

I sometimes wear a ballcap with Army or disabled veteran on it. I own an Army leather jacket which I wear in the winter. I have yet to wear apparel from my unit, and I sometimes wear BDU pants. But for the most part, everyday wear is good enough for me.

I regularly wear my 1963 issued blues and whites with a 1967 issued flat hat as a member of my AMVETS color guard. All of our color guard members where dress dress uniforms of their branches that are correct from the time that they served. Our uniforms range from WWll to Cold War and we even have a substitute Navy man from Operation Desert Storm now and then.

As far as after market veteran's gear not so much. I have several different styles of Coast Guard ball caps none of which are military issue. The one I wear most often was not issued when I served, but it looks like ones that were issued later for other units. It is dark blue with USCGC Eastwind WAGB - 279 machine embroidered above the bill. I also wear it with a PO2 grade pin on the face of the cap. The Eastwind however was de-commed in 1968. Of the other two, both are clearly not military issue and you've no doubt seen similar ones for other branches in catalogs. One for some reason isn't very comfortable. The other (a gift) has "scrambled eggs" on its visor and I am proud to have been enlisted, and I certainly don't want anyone to ever accuse me of "stolen valor." I some times wear it on my boat though where I am the "Captain."

I wear an AMVETS "overseas cap" to Post meetings and it is on this that I display all of the pins and stuff I have accumulated.

I am having a dark blue jacket that I bought at a CG PX in Portland, ME assembled that will "celebrate" several Eastwind missions in which I served, sort of like those that Korean War vets had when I was a kid. I haven't decided how much I will wear it yet, but it will certainly make the trip to the 2015 Eastwind Reunion.

In the '60s when I served, being military was highly unpopular by 1965. I kept a rented locker across the street from the base for those rare occasions that we were in country, so that I could change into "civies" as soon as possible and not be taunted nor provoked. For whatever reason, I kept most of my uniform pieces but never broke them out until I was recruited into AMVETS about five years ago. The one thing that I don't have is a standard issue Coast Guard/Navy pea coat size 42R to 44R. IF YOU OR SOMEONE YOU KNOW HAS ONE AND WOULD CARE TO PART WITH IT, PLEASE LET ME KNOW OR HAVE HIM CONTACT ME. Winter parades in Michigan can be tough without one.

I have "Veteran" designated on my Drivers License. I have the CG logo on my disabled Michigan license plate, and the hitch cover also displays the CG emblem.

For anyone who would like to see a walking display of what sort of veterans gear is available, just head to any VA hospital. I am at the Ann Arbor VA Hospital about two or three times a week and while I have seen it all, I have never worn any there myself.

Between AF and USMC apparel, the hair (or lack thereof) and the general demeanor, I doubt that anyone would have any question of prior/current service.

I remember back in the day, when I looked at the Gunny in civilian clothes and thought he "looked funny", fast forward 30 years, and am guessing that some of my Airmen think the same thing LOL

I don't have the best or the flashy hat with ribbons on it. But I have my Velcro flag on my civilian work gear. (Plate carrier style vest with my body armor-for my probation home visits and searches) and I have some small subtle things. Pins and keychains.

Sometimes. I've been known to wear a couple of unit t-shirts that I'm proud of. I try to avoid "motivational" gear, though. Sometimes I wear "military-themed" t-shirts from Ranger Up that I find funny or interesting -- I have a t-shirt that has something like Boba Fett's breastplate armour emblazoned on the front, and it happens to have SSG rank on the sleeve as part of the design logo for the company that made it. I've also got one that says "Occupy Patrol Base" with some map insignias for tactical infantry navigation and manoeuvre, because it makes fun of the Occupy movement. But I won't wear something like "US ARMY! WE KICK ENEMY ASS HOOAH!" with flags and fireworks and tanks or something overly motivational.

When I was younger I did. Now I let my wife wear that stuff that signifies I'm in the military. I know what I've done/what I do. I don't really enjoy/feel comfortable answering questions beyond the typical 'do or have you served' type (even when asked by other service members). I do have some unit t-shirts, hoodies I wear at times.

(that may not fit anymore) Whenever I am at the VA Hospital I usually pick something up from the AAFES. I like to think similar to how my Marine brothers think, once a Marine always a Marine. So for me it's once an Airman....

I am going to post again, since I have some more thoughts on this topic, I hope ya'll don't mind. Since I am coming close to the end of my military career, I think I figured out why Veterans wear their service stuff. Those things are what we have to hold on to when we are no longer actively serving. I am extremely proud of my service and frankly, I don't care what others think about that. Maybe it has something to do with why someone has served. If someone served just to get some college money and to not to serve their country, I would suspect that their pride of service would be less than mine. Not that they are ashamed or aren't proud of serving, but they only gave 3 or 4 years to get some college money. I am being retired due to being deployed, I can't wake up in the morning with the reminder of my time down range. I think we are all proud of our service, but some have a lot more of their life invested in the Army. I am certainly not trying to imply that all of us (OEF or OIF Vets) don't carry around reminders everyday, just maybe that is why some of us wear our service stuff more than others. Hell, who knows, maybe I am way off track here...

I am looking for veteran t shirts and hoodies to wear cause I am proud to be a Persian Gulf Era Vet (07 to 09) and wishing I could have done more.

But in May, I get to do something truly special- wear my Class A uniform and sing for the veterans in Orlando,FL so I need help getting an 11th Brigade 2-43 set female together properly cause Greens are different from the Blues and I want to do this right as my way to Thank my Brothers and Sister that served before me

The generic "Marine corps" tshirt, rarely. But I do (did) have a Mals 12 squadron shirt I loved. Alas it has seen better days. Hint... Any MALS-12ers out there send me a new one. Extra large. I still wear the windbreaker but wish I had gotten a larger size.

I have always worn hats, even before entering service. I've just recently started wearing one that says Vietnam Veteran. I had a 27 year old daughter give it to me for my birthday last year. She told me ,"I never see you wear something like this, I think you should be proud you served because if you had not, I might not be here, or speaking a different language.
She gets it...She's been my highly opinionated little girl all her life, and has had me wrapped around her finger from day one.
I have two son's that went in the Army, one is out now, but both were in Iraq at the same time. The one that is out is because of the up or out, perfect APFT score and weight, always there when you needed him, but the clock and calendar caught up to him.. He wears stuff sometimes, mix and match parts of uniform's, I'm thinking more the thought of it's still good, might as well wear it out before the expensive store bought stuff. course he's behind the wheel of an 18 wheeler and seldom seen in public.

I do quite a bit I'm very proud of my service and not afraid to show it. It also gives other vets a chance to strike up a conversation if they see a vet hat or shirt on you. I'm one of those who go to "The Wall" as often as I can. Got a lot of friends written on there. To me I consider it an honor to those guys to know even though our country has all but forgotten us and them, I never will!!!

I just purchased an Army cap. My better half said that I will look like those "old men." I asked her "which age will it be okay for me to wear it?" I do wear Army and Veteran pins on my suit jackets.

You're not seeing many non-patriotic veterans wearing veteran apparel because they are just that - non-patriotic. Many of them detest the government and are leftists. They drank the Jimmy Carter cool-aid that's been passed down through the generations since Jimmy Carter was the President of the Untied States. In fact, there are numerous articles bashing us veterans for wearing such apparel. The reason you see WWII Veterans, Korea Veterans and Vietnam Veterans...even some Desert Storm Veterans wearing the apparel is because they are true American patriots. They lived and served in a time when honor and service meant something. That notion is slowly fading with the leftist agenda as it infects and plagues every corner of our society.
