MILPER 15-191 just came out (on the 1st), announcing a MAJ/LTC board for duty as a Professor of Military Science at one of 60 schools. Suspense for applications is *** 8 July ***. Open to MAJ/LTC AC or AGR.

My good deed for the day is done. Remind me sometime to share my views of making these slots only open to AC...

I read the message. It's only open to select year groups and ILE must be completed.

COL Vincent Stoneking - My assignment as an ROTC Instructor was one of the best of my career. I enjoyed it immensely and felt like I contributed much to the cadets I taught and mentored.

Many of my former cadets communicated with me for many years following their commissioning and I even had four of them attend my brigade change of command in Korea.

I strongly recommend it.

What are your views for making it only AC, sir? As it stands it seems there are very few (actual) broadening assignments for AGR officers.

Being a PMS can be rewarding but it also challenging. ROTC is not a vacation away from a line unit as there are plenty of weekends and summer camps going on. I am fortunate to work for a good PMS but I do see the challenges he faces. Good luck to those who want the privilege of shaping the Army's future leadership.

I'd have to say the PMS job is buyer beware, especially when it comes to the AD Option Cadets, the PMS gets to select whether to accept them but doesn't have UCMJ Authority as these Cadets are assigned to the U.S. Army Student Detachment. I was on the alternate list for FY15, and was selected and activated, but declined as I'd been placed into Battalion Command.

I have said it before and will say it again. Based on personal observations, the PMS position is either one for those in transition to better opportunities, or where individuals go when their career is at the end of the line... I went through 3 PMSs during my cadet career. Two were waiting further action to determine the next step / options, whereas one was in a holding pattern until their Command slot opened.
