Of course, most who say something that generates a down vote from me are as interested in my opinion as I am in theirs. I will also make comment if I feel my words contribute to the discussion and has not be completely duplicated by someone else's words. I am interested in all of the discussions, although I may not be able to post my opinions because my workplace blocks sites like RallyPoint and I have to wait until the end of the day to make my comment or provide an answer. I think that if someone voted down without a comment I would find the person and ask why they voted down. If you feel the question is really good or thought provoking you can vote it up. If you read a response to the question you like or agree with you can vote it up as well. Questions and responses votes are tallied in different category and voting on one doesn't require you to vote on the other. You can also down vote something based on how you feel about it. Then I look at the comments and if I agree with them I will vote them up. If I don&#39;t agree then I don&#39;t vote up or down. If they are absolutely off the chain slapping people in the face or just plain trolling, I will sometimes vote down. However, I have rarely voted something down....I just let it go and move on. If I do down vote there will be comments...whomever deserves to know why I threw a downvote. I apologized and went back and tried to fix it. I down voted someone one time with malice and left comments as to why. They were stirring the pot and baiting folks and then making it personal without keeping it civil. It has to be unprofessional comments for me to downvote. Most of the time I just move on. Any down vote definitely gets an explanation. Many original posts are just a statement of opinion; no question even asked. I do enjoy how some of those do lead to commenters asking questions of the original poster. There is almost always something that someone says we like, no matter how much we may disagree on other issues.<br /><br />Generally the only downvotes I give are when I’m downvoted first. Discussing things with people we don’t agree with is a good thing. I’m sorry but downvoting a view we may not agree with seems a bit ... insecure, childish, etc, so I downvote people who downvote simply because we disagree.
