Rags of Honor is a Chicago-based T-shirt shop focused on employing our nation’s returning veterans, many of whom are in danger of homelessness. Many of the Rags of Honor employees have felt this struggle first hand, with one stating, “I figured when I came back from war I would like, be a hero. But it’s not like that.”

Owner Mark Doyle says, “The most profound and inspiring words you can tell a vet are, ‘You’re hired.'” The company has grown from 4 to 22 employees since it opened.

This T-Shirt Could Be the Difference Between a Veteran Having a Home and Living on the Streets

Mark Doyle found a way to give careers to unemployed military veterans as risk of becoming homeless with Rags of Honor.

COL Mikel J. Burroughs I am thankful that Rags of Honor, which is a Chicago-based T-shirt shop, focuses on employing our nation’s returning veterans, many of whom are in danger of homelessness. This employment opportunity seems like it may be a concept which could be reproduced in other urban areas.
The reasons for veteran homelessness are almost as varied as the number of homeless veterans. Some are homeless for short periods while others fall of the grid and may be homeless until they die.
Most homeless veterans fall somewhere in between those two extremes.
There is no one size or solution which will fit all needs to veteran homelessness. I hope and pray that as many homeless veterans as possible are able to be secure, comfortable and warn enough this Christmas season and throughout the winter.

Yes. When private industry steps in to solve a problem our government agencies are confounded by, it's typically successful. One veteran at a time.

Thanks for sharing. There were a few times after I got out that I felt worthless, because I had extended periods of unemployment. Luckily I was never at risk of becoming homeless, but I can only imagine what these Brothers and Sisters were going through before they found their Guardian Angel!
