Do you think that the punishment for abuse on dependents should be more strict?

For some people, abuse has been a part of their life for a long time. Before I joined, I had a friend in the service, and was almost kicked out because of he was pressured into having a beer by his supervisor while he was only 20 years old. That same supervisor was found guilty for abuse of his wife and children (hospitalization), and was only demoted a rank and moved to a different shop. Do you think that the punishment for abuse on dependents should be more strict?

Without more information (many blanks with questions), it could be possible that the charges brought forth only warranted this punishment. But also bear in mind, that conviction of domestic abuse while actively serving will create all kinds of headaches for this NCO down the road.

Punishment for such acts is dependent on whoever issues the punishment. Whereas the one you know only got demoted by one rank and moved someone that I knew lost all four stripes, spent several months in confinement in the Security Forces building and was ultimately discharged.

That said obviously the punishment can be severe, what should happen is there should be standard levels of discipline for specific situations across the board so that Sgt Snuffy isn't given a slap on the wrist by one commander and given the boot by the next. Know what I mean?
