If Trump follows through on his campaign promises to set up private prisons, Corecivic and GEO Group may likely stand to benefit. And it will mark a shift away from the Obama administration that has taken steps to move away from private prisons. So do you think that the private prison industry will see a boom time under Trump? Comments please.

Time and Again, State & Federal Agencies along with State & Federal Judges have been caught on the Take... This includes Supervisors of the same agencies... we just almost never hear about it due to the fact they are on gag orders...

This is a bad idea. I'm not one for big gov but this is one place that needs to stay under gov control. These people are arrested by the gov and sentence by them. Why should they be controlled by a for profit company. I work in this field it takes a certain type of person who has a certain type of skills to work in this type of environment. You most likely find these people at the wages paid by these institutions. When you have to worry about your bottom line you take shortcuts that are detrimental to the safety of your staff, public, and inmates. States have a hard enough time doing it with out having to turn a profit. Add that and you have a recipe for a whole host of problems.

This is a program that is ripe with corruption already. Then you look at the "Companies" that will be trusted to run these facilities and what they will be charging the government. So, it will become more of a for profit business and the monies to take care of the Prisoners will start to be shifted to others pockets.

I'm not a fan of it. From what i've read, with the private prison's you run into quota's. The jurisdiction's will have a quota guarantee in the contract with the company, say 95% capacity. If the quota isn't met, then the jurisdiction/county/city has to pay out to the prison company for missing the quota. It's the same with the regional immigration detention centers also run by GEO Group and CCA. These area's are already filled with corruption.

The main concern for these companies becomes the "bottom line" and the "share holders", vice administering prisoners.

Privatized prisons don't have a great track record and the urge to go private has dwindled a great deal. The Bureau of Prisons experiment in Taft, CA hasn't been an overwhelming success, especially with the additions given to them (covering inmate medical costs and food).

The only ones clamoring for privatization is the corporations that run the few in the United States, like the ones mentioned and Corrections Corporation of America. Which is just a work program for retired wardens and associate wardens. I don't think there will be any big push as the DOJ and BOP have made it clear that the care and confinement offered by private prisons is lacking in every way.

One of my sons was imprisoned in a privately-run prison in the Virginia-state prison-system SP5 Mark Kuzinski. That was the best run prison system I had seen up to that point. Visitors and prisoners and everybody was treated with respect there unlike the other prisons I have visited.
I supported the work of Chuck Colon in Prison Fellowship and have supported their efforts, since he died, to reduce recidivism. I am a strong supported of faith-based prison systems which have reduced recidivism in many of the areas they have operated.
Next month I plan on visiting my son who is a medium-security federal-prison in West Virginia. From all accounts that it is a less than optimum prison.

I have read all responses and decided to add my 2 cents. I see what the Poll says but I wonder how many who have responded currently work or have ever worked within the prison systems in the US?
I currently am employed within a State Juvenile Justice facility, and I for one would be interested in seeing how a private company would run the facility where I work. Would they treat this facility as an Institution? a Correctional facility and not a summer camp for Juvenile Delinquents?

If there is Corruption going on with the Privatization, then you can look at the Government Agency that monitors them.
Look at the VA, Look at the GAO, Look at the IRS, Look at the BLM, Look at any Government Agency you will find Overspending and wide spread Corruption because they are not holding their feet to the fire. and same goes for Civilian based Governmental contractors. Boeing, Lockheed, IBM, Bureau of Prisons.

I hope not... Prisons are bacterial growth mediums for criminal interaction and networking..at least the way we run them... Multiplying Prisons are also a sign of a weak and ineffective society. In a brutal dictorship prisons are an evil to be avoided. In a morally and socially floundering society they are the drain traps for unintended results of badly enforced policy.. Hard labor and isolation will encourage none of these growth mediums.

I don't know rather the private prison industry should boom under the Trump Administration but as a retired police officer what I have seen once and inmate has done his time in prison, if he is a felon a lot of employers will not hire a felon, so once he's turn away from jobs because of his record. He reverts right back to a life of crime, to be sent to prison, I have seen inmate's on parole pick up a pair of shoes in a store, walk out the door put there hands behind there back and tell the officer lets go, and call the county jail and tell them I coming so they can save me a plate of food. Others I have seen get out in the summer months, and soon as winter come they commit a dumb crime usually a misdemeanor so they can get approximately six months until the weather changes. If this continues the Prison system will double in sizes.
