Do you think spouses should be saluted?

When I was on Active Duty for Training an officer's wife drove through the gate and demanded I salute her. I said no you don't have rank mam. What do you think about spouses believing they should be saluted?

I am attached to an MP unit, and when they were working the gate, the answer they were given was you don't salute the spouse, you salute the sticker.

Otherwise, no. They don't get salutes.

I agree with what CWO4 Maria Pettus wrote (and many others have written): No, of course not. We salute the person who wears the rank, not his or her spouse, child, etc.

If there's a sticker on the vehicle, you salute the vehicle. If there's no active duty in the vehicle and no sticker, no salute required.

I don't think it should be mandatory, but in certain occasions would be nice to show spouse dedication to service also. I do think is for the first lady?

The only civilian who rates a salute is the CinC, not the First Lady nor any other civilian regardless of who they’re married to.
