Partially. His comment infers that all responsibility is in the hands of the immigrant. Sometimes people are shunned by our society, and that isolates them (and prevents their assimilation). Both society and the individual play a role in that assimilation process.

Why is this even a question? Oh yeah, those who now control our government have suckled at the progressive teat. It's been fed to them in school with mind-numbing repetition. Meanwhile the nation is invaded by those coming from places where the "haves" have "it" by stealing it. Americans, they conclude, must have stolen "it" as well and they're coming to take it back. Become an American? That's like asking them to become just another thief. Adopt the American culture. Why? Theirs is superior (despite the fact that it produced the horrific conditions from which they are escaping). Learn the language. Pffft. That sounds like a lot of work for nothing. Who is there to talk to who is worth talking to in American English?

Not just Yes but, Hell Yes.....! In my opinion it never should have strayed from this, after all isn't this what this Country was founded on in the first place...."NOT BEING TOLD WHAT TO DO" If you want to come to America these are the rules....Period!

But we have gone the other way, we have deformed to become not Americans, but (insert race here) / Americans.

Isn't it interesting that they insist on naming their origins first, and Americans later? I can see that we are a nation very divided, racial tensions at its worst. Ever. One side is pandering, and hiding the hindering of the masses, hoping they stay ignorant, and stagnant, the other, just erring on finding the right approach, both guilty of corruption.

Roosevelt, here, was speaking of German immigrants who were settling in centralized areas, speaking their own language, and not assimilating into American society. Essentially creating their own communities and ghettos. Here was right then, and his words stand as truth today. My opinion, as the Son of a German immigrant who went out of his way to integrate into American society, and to raise a family of Americans, of German descent. Regards

Probably the Only Thing a Modern Conservative would agree with from Teddy since for all intents and purposes he was a Liberal Republican and we can thank him for all our National Public Parks which Modern Republicans want to sell to the Highest Bidder and He was for Staunch Control and Gov't Oversight of Business especially to prevent Monopolies. I am a Proud American but I have No Problem saying that I am a Proud German American too.
