let me get this straight, professional athletes can beat their wives and girlfriends and do drugs, and nothing happens, but this guy is gambling and gets barred for life from baseball? Sounds fair to me.

Pete Rose has suffered almost more than anyone else who ever played the game. He played, he managed, and although his time was certainly not without controversy he was without a doubt one of a kind !!

Now he has been punished enough, and deserves, at the very least, to be able to once again officially walk with his "colleagues" on the field, and hopefully in the end, have his rightful place in Cooperstown.

It is time. This is a case of personal vs professional. The fact is he bet on baseball and he also was one of the best hitters in baseball. We can debate the two but I personally feel it's time for "Charlie Hustle" to be in the hall.

It seems to me that other professional athletes have done far worse and suffered far less ... yes, it is time to remove the ban.

Absolutely, if they are accepting Barry Bonds' "record" setting home run, A-Roid's 3000th career hit, let Charlie Hustle back in the game. He admitted he bet on the game, where others took the Lance Armstrong approach and denied doing anything wrong, or when caught they make a "momentary lapse in judgement, and completely regret their actions." All PR hogwash.

I think it's a double standard. Evidently he pissed off some who were much bigger than the MLB commissioner because no one else has been banned from MLB since to my knowledge. It makes me not want to watch MLB anymore because in other sports more severe infractions occurred and nothing was done about it. Case in point, the New England Patriots and "Deflate Gate." Shameful and clouds the whole Super Bowl 49 win...

Well, I can say this - I grew up with Pete's kids & have known him since the early 70's. I don't think I have ever met another person who eats, drinks, and sleeps baseball like he does. On the field, there were few who could match his tenacity for the game ... and today most pale in the shadow he cast as a player. On the other hand, as a person, as a human being he is certainly not a role model. That said, what does it have to do with playing baseball between the white chalk lines?
If he is judged solely on the merits of playing the game of baseball, there is a clear answer. If character is made part of the mix, that muddles the question and the answer. It also calls into question a multitude of other inductees whose crimes are overlooked and they walk through the door. That makes you wonder about the whole membership of the hall of fame.
