Do you remember the first time that you heard the term (MDMP)?

How many leaders at both the staff and command team levels actually use the Military Decision Making Process? What are your experiences with MDMP? Does this process truly work?

CW4 Private RallyPoint Member I have nightmares about it - I have used it so many times it's hard to count the times I've used it at the Company level, Battalion Level, Brigade Level, and even in my civilian occupations. I use to have fun bringing the military MDMP into the civilian world when I was the president of the company. At first everyone would just look at me like I was on "drugs" or something, but if you tweak it and change some of the terms it's great for solving complex issues in the civilian world as well. Some of you executives out there should try it and have fun with it. Only if you’re in charge though!

I thought the MDMP was a bloated, wasteful process at first. As I spent more time in STAFFEXes and putting it into practice, I grew to appreciate the way that it forced you to think analytically and rigorously about the way you approached a mission. This mentality has proven especially helpful when doing case studies in business school.

Some COA are screened out due to the impossibility. Some assumptions are thrown out. Some assumption become fact because they have to happen for the whole operation to succeed.
