I bought this 1962 Corvette that year & paid $3895.00...My monthly payments including insurance & gas took about all I earned a month back then..So I had a nice car but very little cash.

My first new car was a dark blue 1970 Volvo station wagon purchased in San Diego. Being a first-time dad had me thinking safety and the carrying capacity came in handy while I was attached to SEAL Team One. By coincidence the CO had purchased the identical color and model. Unfortunately, this was the first year of the squared off body design and it had numerous problems. The car spent more time at the dealership than it did in our hands. Three months later I persuaded the dealer to tale it back and got a used 1965 MGB convertible instead, one week before leaving for ET 'B" school at Treasure Island.

I was a senior at the University of Oregon Dental School. My wife, unbeknownst to me, was saving money each month for about 2 years, from working at the bank. She made the down payment on my first new car as a graduation gift to me for graduating from Dental School. It was a 1964 Austin Healey 3000 Roadster, Red in color and had wire wheels. I was in seventh heaven. After graduation,I went on active duty in the Navy Dental Corps for 2 years and had monthly payments of less than $200.00 a month on my new Healey. Picture of my wife and my first new car is below. The total cost for the New Healey was $3800 in 1964. She paid 1/3 down for me as my gift.
