Do you look down on any group of people or individuals?

It seems that the tension has been going up in this nation for some time with increases in violence and decreases in compassion. In the past I hated groups of people for what they did primarily. It is much easier to hate groups of people we know nothing about. The more we know about people the more we see similarities with ourselves.
Do you look down on any group of people?

While I used to hate many groups of people and some individuals, I no longer do. I attribute much of this change to the fact that I became a Christian in 1987./ Even when I tried to hate groups of people, God managed to change my heart frequently by having some of those people having contact with mew to know that we shared some things in common. I believe each person is created in the image of God and is worthy of my respect as a fellow human being.
As a practical matter, I still go through the daily struggle of realizing I hate some group and think about vengeance. When I recognize it I confess my thoughts to God, who knows my thoughts anyway, and ask for His help to transform my mind. Thanks Sgt Richard Buckner for reminding me.

well ... we all do. That is how our brain function, recognizing pattern. When something happen in a pattern that cause you to look down on someone, and repeat itself to the point your brain normalize it .... done deal. You will automatically look down on those. We can always try to remind oneself ... but that is a never ending fight against yourself.

I have a very difficult time respecting people who blame their bad behavior on someone else.
Someone who is not accountable for their own actions, and use that as an excuse to burn down neighborhoods, take pot shots at police, or commit mass shootings or terrorist attacks have no one to blame but themselves.
No amount of hand-wringing will placate these people either.

Sir to honestly answer that question I would have to say YES. I have been looking down on a set group of individuals that are prevalent in this great country of ours. Who are they you ask? Anyone shorter than I am (I'm 6ft 2in). So at six foot, I'm now looking down at you, wondering how the weather is down there. When you get into the four foot range, I realize that now you're going to need assistance looking over the customer service counter, and I could help. At two feet or less, more than likely I'm changing your diapers, so I think we're even there. Otherwise, I don't care who or what you are. We all serve a purpose.

I'm into the group thing. Individuals can be good or bad, but the dynamic changes with group think, many times for the worse. That's what the extremist groups do, that's what the segments who don't care about basic freedoms do, and that's what evil people do. For those who are on the value side, I'd propose you won't see the value until they shake the first thing off first. If you are into the love side, then the objective is the same so they too can love all. It's the hesitation and unwillingness to go after real evil over the value and love argument that results in the loss of many more innocents. Are we always right? No. But should we hesitate over mostly right? That requires courage, ownership, and responsibility. See much of that around the Beltway lately?

That's a terribly broad question. I try very hard to realize that "groups" are not monolithic in belief or action, so I have to restrict my disdain to individuals who exhibit traits I think are wrong. Even then, I try to keep it fixed firmly in my mind that I don't have it all figured out and someone isn't wrong simply because I want them to be.

That said, I totally look down on hate groups and any group whose foundational goal is self-serving or bigoted. I still try to remember that people are broken and deserve some sympathy, but I don't quite have that down yet. haha

You know when I was in Iraq I worked with the Polish. After a few beers I confessed that in America we have Polish jokes. All the Poles started laughing uncontrollably. I could not understand what was going on. Finally one of the guys said they have American jokes in Poland. They told me one and it got lost in translation, but what I got from it was the jokes all have arrogant, hard headed, and stupid Americans as the dupe.

I look down on those who intentionally cause harm on others. Some are for selfish gain which I can somewhat understand because we are human after all. Some of them are "misery loves company". I pity them. There are many whom I do not see eye to eye, but it's easy to tell the ones that are malicious vs. the ones that have a different way of seeing and doing things.

I wouldn't call it looking down on them....but, I am guilty of finding it kind of gross when I see someone covered from head to toe with tattoo's....nose piercings...well piercings all over their body...and those large gauge earring things...I find them grotesque and it grosses me out...BUT! I know it doesn't mean these are bad people...but I have to admit I probably would feel embarrassed associating with them....ok...so there you go...I'm a horrible person.

About 13 years ago I was told I would likely hate blacks by the time I was able to return home. The "gentlemen" (I use this term very, very loosely here) that told me this were, to me anyhow, far less likely to gain my respect than those they were disliking. I have friends of all colors, shapes and sizes.

I agree with some of the other responses, especially those that stated the people that don't want to take responsibility for their actions and blame the world for their shortcomings.

Hate them? No, I don't. If folks rub me the wrong way, I try to avoid interacting with them. When challenged, I won't cower.

I was taught as many others were to love thy Neighbor and since this planet is our home people from other countries are essentially our neighbors. However, when I see this country being torn apart from people of other countries because they have torn their own countries apart I think of parasites and vermin, muslims have effectively throughout history methodically invaded many lands and through persistence have more or less taken these lands over. To love thy neighbor is ok, to let thy neighbor take everything to include your rights and the kitchen sink is not alright. I sadly voted yes. I love my country however young and naive it may be, its still ours.

I try not to but there is one type of person I will always look down on and it's those whose apparent goal in life is to try and make themselves appear above everyone else by being negative and putting other people down.

The best example I have to explain this is a close friend of mine and her classmates. Her classmates have been horribly rude to her for years mainly because she is a Christian and doesn't let herself fall into peer pressure. The only thing I can think is that they are jealous of her ability to be happy without doing the stupid crap they do so they try to make her feel bad for not being like them. Those types of people, high and mighty "I'm better than you" people are the ones I look down on because they are the ones making this world worse.

LTC Stephen F. I may not agree with the way other people operate, but in general I don't really look down on a person. The only exception I have is evil people, I can't help the way I feel about that one.

But on a lighter note, being a female at 5' 8" I am normally taller than majority of the women I know. I am the tallest female in my family (on both sides) and even though I am the oldest, all my younger brothers are around 6' and some change. When I wear heels however (like in this picture with two of my brothers) I am almost 6'.

Well Sir-I try not to "look down" on anyone; Everyone "became" what they are for some reason. Still, I get frustrated with people who demand sweeping change without considering all outcomes...people who enjoy spreading dissent...and people who let their own insecurities morph into "causes". I find them in all ages, classes, races, religions and political affiliations.
