Sgt Tom Cunnally actually doing anything too much is usually dangerous by definition: sitting, running, eating, drinking too much all lead to health problems - many are correctable by behavior modification; but, some like smoking too much or taking too much medication can be life threatening :-)

LTC Stephen F. - My sister taught school in Fairfax VA & I visited her class . Her students were every color of the rainbow and from just about every country you could think of... She had them making cards for the military who were serving in Vietnam.. One little guy wanted to know if I ever shot anyone... I told him No..And that I just trained Marines to run faster and do lot of setups and pushups..

Sgt Tom Cunnally - I am glad that your sister's class received you well. At first glance I thought the young boy asked you if you ever "shot up" which I thought would be strange but not unheard of since heroin has been a problem around here for awhile. I was glad on reread to see if asked about "shot" and you provided a great answer which I am sure was appreciated by your sister.
in Loudoun we have a similar situation with people loving here from all over the world. The variety of names, eating habits, and languages is challenging but refreshing.

LTC Stephen F. - Her neighborhood in Fairfax VA has been hit by a lot of burglaries & the suspects are mostly young kids whose parents are in the military or retired military & these kids need money for their opioid habits..

Sgt Tom Cunnally - that is sad. Where I used to live, until last summer, there were burglaries because wealthy houses were nearby. There were no active military nearby but some veterans and retirees. Drugs became an issue in the past decade there.
Where I live now, there are more murders than burglaries. Drugs are a problem and are closely related to the violent gangs like MS-13 which is also active in Fairfax.
The regional gang task force has made some headway but there is a long way to go.

Yes, sitting is like smoking. Your blood pools in your lowest parts of your body. Standing for prolonged periods is also not healthy either as your body weight can wear out your joints.

I push water and coffee down so that at a minimum I have to get up every hour to go relieve myself. A couple hours before and after lunch, a few colleagues of mine go for a brisk 15~20 minute walk. I've often wanted a desk where I can stand as well as sit as I have two monitors.

I just bought an exercise bike for my gym so I ride it while using my Microsoft Tablet PC or when reading the newspapers & watching Videos

Yes. If your worksite will allow it, I strongly recommend a standing, or adjustable, workstation - even if done on your own dime. I used one for 13 of the last 17 years, and highly recommend. Probably sat on average of 20% of the time in the office, mostly in meetings. For the last 6 months, I have been using a "yoga ball chair" - not as good as standing, but enforces good posture and at least a little core engagement.

Get out from behind your desk or get off the couch. ...Try walking or running at lunch. Or at least get up & stretch ..I sat in front of a Computer for 8 hrs a day 5 days a week. But did run at lunch with some other colleagues at Loral Corporation... But many others ate their lunch at their desks and still were using their Computers.. So in a few words "Sitting can be dangerous to your health"...
