When I was young, my family introduced me to to slavic man who had been interned in a Nazi extermination camp. They cared for him after he was released to Britain. We ate a meal with him in the 1960's and he still showed signs of the trauma he went through. He died before he was 50 as a result of the torture he went through.

One of the guys in my VFW once said "I have a ribbon you probably haven't seen anyone wear." I responded with "POW?" He answered with a yes. I asked how long he was captive. He said only a few days and that he didnt like the chow so he left.

My Uncle (great Uncle, actually) was a bombardier on a B-17 and was shot down and spent two years in a Nazi POW camp. He (understandably) never spoke of it in too much detail.

My grandfather wasn't a servicemember of any sort, but he was Jewish. He got caught up in the whole Nazi Germany mess, spent I don't know how long at Auschwitz. I don't remember nor did I ever know much about him, seeing as he passed when I was very young. But I remember seeing his numbers and whatnot.
