WASHINGTON (Army News Service, Oct. 29, 2015) -- First Army is three years ahead of Department of the Army's schedule for transforming to a focus on pre-mobilization training for the reserve components.

"Operation Bold Shift" is about two-thirds complete now, said First Army Commander Lt. Gen. Michael S. Tucker. The reorganization will be finished by next summer, well ahead of the 2019 requirement.

Sixteen training brigades have already collapsed to nine, he said. And those brigades are primarily being filled with combat support and combat service support Soldiers.

Better late than never. My first thought. Kind of funny to be worrying about that now that the mobilization efforts are almost completely over.

They are now three years into it.. As a Company Commander, My unit was conducting RC training under the name Bold Shift in 1992 after DS/DS. Some staff officer probably received an award for devising a "new" program. Just goes to show you how many programs are recycled as "something new".

Yes. I worked at First Army Division East in 2006-2007 and then took command of a Training Support Battalion which was mobilized at Fort Dix. As the mobilization mission slowed down, they were able to demobilized many Army Reserve units which helped train the deploying units. Now they are helping units in pre-mobilization, meaning Battle Assemblies and Annual Training periods. Which was the mission before 9-11.
