I love the painting, as it is a generic portrayal of a military member. To me it shows the sacrifices that have been made through the years by our Military, often with no fanfare. <br />The SM is walking to the light, which then brings the discussion is Heading Home indicating that he is going to Heaven? Or simply Heading Home from parts unknown? Or, as has been pointed out by friends, does it signify the fact that once again, he is "on his way"? It was that interest in the Russo-Japanese War that interested me in history, foreign languages and ultimately in military service, and that picture represents to me the very beginning as an 8-year-old boy to an adventure that still continues forty years later.<br /><br />The Mikasa is also a beautiful ship, what was known as a Pre-Dreadnaught battleship and the only one remaining in the world today.
