Although this story is from October, it's the first time I read about it.
I'm scratching my head trying to figure out how in the world this can be construed as being racist.
There are two Hispanic's and Two Blacks participating...
What has this world come to? It's a terrible thing that we have to all walk on egg shells of fear of offending someone. OH MY GOSH!
IF THEY ALL DRESSED UP IN KIMONOS AND PUT ON WHITE FACE MAKEUP would it still be racist?
What if they were all dressed in KILTS or dressed in dresses with wooden shoes? Still Racist?
GIVE ME A BREAK...this is ridiculous!
Any thoughts?

University of Louisville president slammed for Halloween photo in 'Mexican' costume

The University of Louisville apologized to the school's entire Hispanic community Thursday after a photo surfaced showing President James Ramsey among a group of staffers at a Halloween party dressed in matching stereotypical Mexican costumes.

Considering that your "average" Mexican dressed like this is actually in "costume", I don't see an issue with it, and if there is, All Mexicans dressing like this, for say, a Mariachi Band, should be considered racist, right?

Hmmm.... A bunch of Casper-milk-toast, white folks mocking the Mexican community through the overuse of sombrero and veils. Throw in a moustaches, goatees, and a poncho for effect. Had they included a couple of bottles of tequila... well... that would have crossed the line. I'm sure it'll have a positive impact on the minority recruiting effort at U of Louisville. This might be OK at a college frat theme-party. But, I expect better of a university's executive staff.

May be if they had a Fritos Bandito. When I was growing up I had one friend always dress as a hobo. It was not racist then. Know just being white makes you a racist. And party city has sexualized everything.

There is a big movement against cultural apropation. The concept ad historical fact state that in dominating a people the rr dehumanized by striping them of language, delegitimizing cultural practices, religion, symbols, then the sexualization of women, and demasculinization of men. This fall in the category of cultural appropriation. There is a fine line of a tasteful joke for Halloween and racial insensitivity. The intet here does not appear racist, but I am not Mexican.

No I do not consider this costume to be racist Sgt Kelli Mays.
If anything it might be considered an ethnic or national slur against Mexicans in the same way that some people label the old lawn statues of a man in a sombrero with a mule as being a slur against Mexicans. It reminds me of Shakespeare phrase "much ado about nothing."

I think this costume was in good fun since it was halloween. I've seen worse taste in costumes. This is yet another shining example of the over-sensitivity our society is coming too, having to cater to every nuance of political correctness. This reminds me of those that got offended by the asian sounding voices of the Neimoidians that ran the trade federation in the Star Wars prequels. Give me a break. Judging by this article, since I have an asian heritage; I should be offended by anyone wearing a kimono, martial arts uniform, wearing a 'rice hat', heck even someone wearing a dragonball z outift. When I took my daughter trick or treating, I saw multiple DBZ costumes (a couple of adults dressed even), and saw a geisha girl paired with a samurai too, of course the majority was caucasian...did I take offense? Heck no, because well...it's freaking halloween and the costumes were in good taste. This is ridiculous.
