Do you ever use your "Command Voice" at home or at work? What are the results?

Do you ever "Sound Off" at home or at work and use your "Command Voice" outside of your unit? This can include getting someone's attention, disciplining someone or just "spouting off." I know that when I do use my "Command Voice" that I get immediate attention, but not always the intended response. What are your experiences?

A long day. Came home and was asked a question by my wife. Without thinking, I responded in my command voice. Not recommended.

I have teenage daughters, sometimes they only way they hear me is with the "Army voice."

I've been told before I am very loud anyway and my Grandchildren know that I'm "Easy" so it doesn't work. LOL!

I was once complimented that I didnt need to be loud with my older child, that it was apparent that he knew he was in trouble when I simply said "come here." in that mafia quiet tone.

Not casting a vote because none of the scenarios fit.

But, yes I have on a couple of occasions. And at least once I got DI close to someone. You know in your face.

Once was when we had a fire alarm malfunctioning in a hospital. Everyone was confused and I took charge to order a withdrawal to a safe location. People quickly complied.

My "Command Voice" scares my kids, but my wife just gives me that look. It is currently unfair to my kids, so I try to keep it under control as the added stress of transitioning is messing with some of my 'issues' I inherited from the Army.

My family is not too thrilled about it. Especially when my native profanity flows fluently!

Interestingly, I find that I cannot bring my "Command Voice" out 'on command'.

It is used when the military situation requires it, either to get the attention of a large gaggle OR a lone misguided soul.

When it comes out at home, it may be the same type of situation (I long ago realized there is quite a similarity between children and young servicemembers.)

However, when it happens at home, if I don't realize it, my wife may give me the opportunity to review if it was appropriate.

Sometimes it is.

However, it's important if not always easy that the "Command Voice" is intended for those whom we *command*.
