My wife makes it through each day as best she can. I'm very supportive of her, but some days she's not very happy, and she snaps at me. I blow it off as best I can. I know, had our son not died, life would come back into her eyes and we would all be happy, like we were before. Some days it's me acting unhappy. We keep trudging on, making each day the best we can, and continue turning it over to God. That's all we can do. I joined the Army after graduating high school and a half of a semester of college. I met my wife of almost 19 years while stationed at Fort Knox, I've had two boys born at two different military installations, I've lived all over the states and the world, was fortunate to lead men in combat and bring them home, complete a college degree, and so much more. Especially coming back from a combat deployment and starting a new assignment. What I hated about my time down range was that one minute you're focused on a mission or on patrol and the next thing you know you're back home wondering what just happened.

Starting new assignments you don't quite feel a part of the team yet and all the anticipation for your new duty station is summed up by the realization that you have new problems and new struggles and they are not comfortable to you. It makes you miss the known specters that you had at the previous duty station.

I have found that one just needs to take a deep breath, relax, build a routine and find a healthy way to blow off steam. Mine has been my iPod and some cardio... I prayed for my first marriage to recover and endure. To be honest, I was devastated when my ex left me, especially when she went into hiding with my kids (not from me but rather from her boyfriend who was a con on a work release program from a federal pen and was after her for ratting him out to the cops). I thought there was no hope of ever being happy again when, in fact, her decisions gave me a real chance at happiness. I am now approaching my 40th year with the woman I met after gaining my freedom while my ex is languishing alone after a second failed marriage and countless failed relationships with other men and women. I not only thank her for my freedom, but also for teaching me to truly appreciate my wife. CPT Jack Durish Fri, 15 Jan 2016 16:18:35 -0500 2016-01-15T16:18:35-05:00 2016-01-15T13:21:52-05:00
