So, I do take it seriously and look forward to being able to exercise my right to participate in government. What I cannot stand though are all the political ads that take place. As an Iowa resident, we were subjected to almost continuous ads on every TV channel prior to our caucus. I was fortunate that I kept my Illinois phone number when we moved here since I heard from other Iowans that they were getting robo-calls over and over. I will be glad when it is finally over. I despise what the 24 hour news cycle and the anonymity of the Internet has turned people into. I don't like the reality show primaries have become. It's a right that few have enjoyed throughout history. Doesn't that make you feel special? Doesn't that make you look forward to participating? Sure, the results often run us off the tracks and into the weeds. But, never fear, another election is just around the corner and hopefully we'll get it right the next time. To be fair, I have a love/hate relationship with this particular voting season. I am excited that it is finally the end of President Obama's Administration regardless of the results. I hate that we have the opportunity of choosing someone even worse (and many will be drawn to that choice like moths to a flame), but hope springs eternal, and I love voting... That being said I hate a the BS on TV and the internet. This ones irresponsible, that ones a four year old throwing a constant temper tantrum. Political attack ads and bullying blowhards. Certain candidates pandering to the lowest common denominator of our society. Spouting inflammatory BS with nothing to back it up. There are too many people out there ready to vote for something "different" which is damn sure not the equivalent of better. Brazen out cry's of "I'll do this..." with no way of seeing it through. "Make America Great Again" holds as much water as "The Souths Gonna Rise Again." The context in which it's said they may as well be interchangeable. I enjoy and appreciate the right to vote but there hasn't been a decent president since Reagan. It has gotten to the point of voting for the lesser of two evils and every year it becomes darker and darker. At some point the light goes out.
