Do you consider yourself superstitious? Do you have any kind of "lucky charm" when you were deployed?

I'm not superstitious....per say.....but I did bring with me a painting that I had during my tour in Iraq and a Bible an old Army buddy of mine made for me and gave.

Not particularly, other than I don't open a fortune cookie until after I look to make sure there's actually something written on the fortune - I know that's a general item and not deployment related.

Two items that I learned on deployments - which have carried on ever since, actually:
- Never say what someone else is doing looks/would be unpleasant or else you'll find yourself doing the same thing before too long.
- Never say things are q-u-i-e-t or s-l-o-w [That one *definitely* carried over when I became a firefighter, and the Chief was the worst one about saying it, too]

Didn't have anything in particular that I carried with me as a "good luck charm".

I just took the same New Testament I was given at Fort Bragg in 1987 from Gideon's. I had it when I served in Germany. I also had a Bible and the 91st Psalm. I also did my best not to take unnecessary risks as much as possible.

I didn't carry any good luck charms, but when the Red Sox won the World Series in 2004 while I was deployed I thought for sure my number was up. I thought that it would be the ultimate cosmic joke on anyone from the Boston area that was deployed.
