I don't share it with general public or link it to any of the public sites (FB, Trumper...er I mean Twitter... or LinkedIn)

Absolutely! It is a public domain that shows up in Google searches. Anything you post here goes out to the world. It is a great place to make connections with brothers/sisters who share a similar background, and to connect for advice & a little levity in our own special way!

Most of the time no for me. Here I am myself and feel more free to be an individual. I still have to be careful with my word choice. Which can be very hard for me on one topic.

If you've ever google searched for a post you've made on RP, you'll see how quickly these things are referenced. So yes, definitely. It can be a bit insular in here, but it's definitely accessible to the world at large...

Indeed.

I see it as being a parallel to LinkedIn, but focused solely on the military.

I like the aspect of being able to network with other current and former service members from across the branches and share information.

I feel like it could be a bit more robust, and I wish more people were active here, because I can definitely see the value added by having this resource, especially when it comes time for job-hunting after retirement.

It was billed as the LinkedIn for the military, but it's more like the Facebook for the military.

For the most part. I use each social network for different purposes. As far as I know, I don't have any friends/family here at RP, but everyone, including my boss is my friend on Facebook. I don't usually do personal updates on LinkedIn and I almost never comment on Facebook as people are triggered so easily. I enjoy having conversations here on RP as a lot of us share similar views.
