I don't think they were real, or at least not completely real.

That and I can't help but think that if a family member or friend of mine had been shot and I was called by any president's press team to be present for the passing of a new bill or legislation I would probably lose my cool on whoever was on the other line for wanting to use me or my deceased loved one to push their political BS, doesn't matter if they are Democratic or Republican. I don't know how those people can stand up there for stuff like this. I would be grieving my lost loved one, not standing behind a political leader on TV.

He's a father. He has children of his own. How can any father worthy of the title think of their children being gunned down and not get emotional? I would have been disappointed in him as a human being if there weren't tears...

They're real. First of all, no President wants to be seen crying on TV. That's just the way our culture is about leaders crying. But the main reason is that his eyes welled up when he started talking about the children killed at Sandy Hook. So most likely his mind started to remember images from the event. Perhaps he was recalling the emotion-filled meetings with the parents of the victims. Or he remembered the faces of the victims, like the picture posted. Or maybe his mind went to the police report where the officer described entering a classroom, and finding a huge pile of children, one on top of another, packed into the bathroom. And how he unpiled the children, one by one, hoping to find some survivors at the bottom, only to realize every single one was dead.

I would think that any of those images, flashing into your head, would be enough to bring a grown man totears.

SFC Kevin Cornett I am convinced this was the President's plea for an Oscar or Golden Globe. This executive action (direction / suggestion) flies in the face of decision and executive action taken by President Clinton. President Clinton wanted to reduce the number of licensed firearm retail sellers and slow allowing individuals to obtain a Federal Firearms License (FFL) for the purpose of purchasing firearms at wholesale prices for a personal collection. In essence, if you sell a firearm, you will need an FFL under the President's executive action. There are questions with certain provisions pertaining to the Constitutional nature of the decision. I am not well enough informed to provide analysis of the Constitutional issues being raised.

Further, none of these actions will resolve issues which lead to the mass shooting our President was presenting emotion over.

Finally, I prefer a Commander in Chief who presents the strong image of a leader. I failed to see this in this presentation.

Real or not ... there are many books on explaining that ... many more words can describe the conclusion from those books. Some of them are very bad, and some are nicer. So I recommend people go and read all those psychology books on fake or real emotion.

:) those that know me ... know my stand. so I have not need to explain. by not explaining it save me a lot of trouble from coming up a statement without getting into trouble. :P

When I first heard the speech live it was over the radio, POTUS Channel on XM, the emotion did not change in his voice to reflect sadness, I heard anger and frustration. The tears may have been real from those emotions but not of sadness. It seems his anger stems from not understanding why the political right will not agree with him on this position. I am not saying I agree or disagree, I am just giving my analysis of this president and his speech along with his emotion.

Politicians ,especially President s have PhD experts in body language that tell them how to behave or act in public, they can't wipe their butt without some one telling them how to do it. Watch him or Hillary on TV, they use the same hand gestures. Obama put some sort of irritant on his fingers, that why he kept touching his face, then "crying" as after.

Of course his tears were real. I can't imagine this President having the talent to fake tears. The question is what were the tears about? Him, I'm sure. His last year in office. His growing awareness that his legacy will be laughed at. No more unlimited vacation budget after this year. That every decision he makes ends up in a quagmire. Or maybe, just maybe, reality is beginning to seep into his awareness and he is beginning to realize that he is a failure. Yes, those were real tears. How can any doubt it? He has so much to cry about...

No, he kept rubbing cayenne pepper under his eyes. He must have put a BUNCH under his left eye, the tears were NOT just from a tear duct. What do you expect out of him? I DO like CPT Durish's comments....

It was good press coverage and a political setup. He will never have an effect on the criminal element by limiting or taking away guns from the law abiding citizen. The 2nd Amendment is a thorn in his side and he can't stand it and will do everything to circumvent it. The best part is executive orders (as I understand it) can be over turned later on. He wants to solve the criminal problem, yet he turns them loose, back on the streets? No common sense there.

Looks like someone squirted lemon juice in his eyes to me...I don't believe it. I just don't believe anything he says or does any longer. All of these executive actions bypassing congress just fuel the fire for me and to use emotion to tag onto the American people and sell this as the right thing to do without congress's approval...well...he might be selling but I am not buying.

"A watery secretion from the eyes, composed of water, salts, antibodies and lysozymes"

I shall make no attempt to speculate on the initiating event of said tears, since (thankfully) I don't know what's on this President's mind.

Yes of course. Who wouldn't tear up thinking about the crumpled, lifeless body of a 6 year old boy or girl accented by an ugly bloom where their smooth skin is interrupted and destroyed by a bullet? I got teary just thinking about it when he was talking. Only a person devoid of emotion or empathy would not feel some sadness.

Well, holy cow. Another president got emotional when speaking about someone who had been killed while having grieving parents present. I wonder why none of the antiwar crowd accused this one of faking it? I mean, he didn't cry at all the MOH ceremonies, even though in each case he talked about people getting killed. Maybe they had the ability to recognize the human tragedy involved despite their disagreement with the policy. Hmmm.

They were real inasmuch as he didn't inject water into his eyes to create the impression of tear. However, I'd be willing to be any amount of money up to my last dime that he used menthol or something like that to produce them.

Have to believe that he actually believes what he is saying is right and true and is totally frustrated at his inability, even as President, to do anything about all the killings . As a total liberal-type he is so consumed by his ideologies that he can't help from get really emotional about what he firmly believes.
