An impeachment no less! Has such a thing been done before?

An interesting proposition - but not likely to succeed today or the near future. The law regarding impeachment is fairly simple (if anything in Congress and the law can be simple). Let me see - I think this type of conversation has been presented before - but anyway...

BTW...a petition is a valid method in start the inquiry for a hearing on impeachment.

The House of Representatives start the process by determining whether the individuals in questions have or have not commited offenses that justify a charge. Once the charge(s) are made then the presentation of this impeachment is moved to the Senate.

In the Senate, the House of Representatives present their case to either the full Senate or a select group. Once a decision of guilty by 2/3's of the Senate is decided then removal is automatic.

What specific laws that have been broken in what manner, in your opinion, merit such action?Response by PO1 Private RallyPoint Member made Sep 16 at 2014 7:45 PM2014-09-16T19:45:07-04:002014-09-16T19:45:07-04:00COL Randall C.244101

I try to avoid these threads, but I will derail it for a bit. PO1 Steven Kuhn, why do you think that the three branches of government would be accountable to UCMJ? It didn't happen overnight. Indeed, it has been growing cancer-like for the past 100 years. To be honest, the first symptoms can be traced back to the Administration of George Washington.

Washington feared that British fur traders were stirring up trouble with the American Indians and set up govt run trading companies to compete with them. Of course, like all govt run businesses, they failed, a waste of money. Astor set up private trading companies and grew wealthy trading furs with the Indians and selling them for a profit (at prices consumers were willing to pay because they felt they were getting a true value). In other words, capitalism beat our crony-capitalism. It does every time.

Need more evidence? Look at Lincoln's transcontinental railroad. Lincoln was a railroad attorney and he proved where his allegiance lay. Crony capitalists garnered fortunes with federal licenses to sell land in exchange for building a subpar railroad. It would be replaced by better railroads built by real capitalists.

There you have it. Our two greatest Presidents fell victim to the impulse to overreach their constitutional mandates and failed each time. How could we expect more from lesser presidents?

How do we fix it? Simply place a copy of the Constitution next to a chart of federal bureaus and bureaucracies and begin checking off the ones that are not directly related to a valid function of government. Then eliminate those. Easy-peasy...Response by CPT Jack Durish made Sep 17 at 2014 12:58 PM2014-09-17T12:58:29-04:002014-09-17T12:58:29-04:001LT Private RallyPoint Member265145

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsR4O4W0w

Let me further turn this in the correct direction:

“Do not blame Caesar, blame the people of Rome who have so enthusiastically acclaimed and adored him and rejoiced in their loss of freedom and danced in his path and gave him triumphal processions. … Blame the people who hail him when he speaks in the Forum of the ‘new, wonderful good society’ which shall now be Rome’s, interpreted to mean ‘more money, more ease, more security, more living fatly at the expense of the industrious.'” –Roman statesman Marcus Tullius Cicero (106-43 B.C.)
