Do you believe that a professor should still be employed if they reject the American flag flying on campus?

Higher education is about sharing ideas both popular and unpopular. The caveat to this is the school is in the United States supported by it's laws and in some cases money. I personally believe they can say and believe what ever they want but the school should not receive any public money while that professor is an employee of the school.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and not everyone has to like the person's opinion. If they want to talk smack they can because that is what we all swore to uphold idiots' right to free speech and expression. Do not get me wrong it angers me but there is little I can do.

I notice so many of these surveys are slanted or biased. Even those who disagree that he needs to be fired might have trouble saying, "this is perfectly acceptable".

It's a free country to think what you want. I don't agree with the Prof but that's my right, as it is his. What do you think all these wars we've fought are for? They are to be able to live in a free America and not have to worry about being imprisoned or executed for what you say or think. Unless it is unlawful like making a threat or of treason, our voice can be expressed out loud and publicly. It's our constitutional right.

I also think that these folks just need to be sent to what ever
country they want just get them out of mine we don't need

Freedom of Speech, not "Freedom of Only The Speech We Approve Of" is a cherished right in America. While considering the American Flag a "racist" symbol is offensive to me on a personal level, the First Amendment protects his or her right to express those sentiments.

Yes Freedom of Speech allows him to say it. And MY Freedom of Speech allows me to say he should be fired as soon as all state and federal monies are pulled from this school / university. I will pay for his passport fees and airfare to get him to whatever country meets his criteria. But I will be at the airport to explain the history of our flag to him. First smirk gets him a backhand that would make Matt Dillon (from Gunsmoke) jealous. Never met him but I can't stand him. And yes pussies like him will press assault charges but attorneys are a dime a dozen in my family. I'll take me chances....

Knowledge is Power and a college job is to educate and not to represent political beliefs by only employing professors with only one point of view a college fails to adequate prepare college students to a diver world. If some one has an issue with such a professor then that student should not take that class. College students are adult enough to make choices for themselves and no one has the right to decide for a college student; to do so you deny an education process and create weak poorly informed college students that have little to offer our great country.

Not just No but Hell No! Fire the professor. Hard to believe his students have not "flash mobbed" this commie on the way to his BMW. My Son was taught to respect the Flag as he grew into a man and today he has a beautiful flagpole in his front yard and has trained our grandson to bring the Flag indoors if it begins to rain or gets dark before He can make it home.

These students likely (hopefully) have been raised the same way and I would think this professor is getting rebuttals from the class. Where does he get that the U.S. flag symbolizes racism? That flag belongs to any citizen regardless of race, class or creed.

While I disagree and strongly feel that the American Flag should be proudly displayed at every university, I also feel that free speech should be respected even though I don't necessarily agree with their views.

The missing option is "This is not acceptable to me but they have the Constitutional Right to their own beliefs and also the Constitutional Right to express their beliefs freely.

While the Professors are correct to a degree (there has been a lot of "racism" associated with the United States of America) to say that the American flag "stands for racism" means that those same professors are going to have to object to the flying of ANY national flag anywhere at any time.
