What better way for the people claiming this is all the fault of the Police, then to change the departs from within. Don't hold your breath waiting for those applications to come flying in by the truck load though.

I'd like to be optimistic and believe adding protestors to their ranks, but sort of dismisses the issue of police and use of force...right? I mean how will that SOLVE or address the on going issue? Maybe the chief thinks these protests can add a new diversity to the police force but I'm inclined to believe that new recruits will join the ranks and do nothing speaking out against abusive officers or quit the force.

Although I would be all for protestors going out and actually helping police I don't really foresee that happening any time in the near future.

What they should do, especially if they want to gain any type of ground in their movements, is actually go out into their communities and help build their communities up into more friendly and welcoming environments. Build some parks, plant some gardens, fix up homes and schools, do a little community service here and there to prove that you truly want better. That's what needs to happen.

Right now, today, I would vote for this man as president over either yahoo we're going to eventually get. He's been cool under fire, cool under pressure, and just Gets It Right. I think he'd be far better for the US than clinton or trump.

You are either part of the solution, or part of the problem.....

I see lots of people protesting, destroying property, and inciting violence. I don't see very many of them doing anything to change the very things they are supposedly upset over. Maybe they should work to change the culture of "thug life" many individuals glorify. Black, white, red, yellow, or anything in between; if you act like a thug and/or gang-banger, expect to be treated as such. Act like you have some decency and common courtesy and I'll bet there is a huge likelihood you'll come out ok in any dealings with police.

Solving the problem is going to take time and reevaluation of our current practices and training methodology. As a former officer, I know the training that officers receive prior to being on the streets is lacking. With that said, there is a limit to what training can prepare you for. You can simulate over and over again, be proficient in your force threat levels and your departmental policies, but until you are faced with an adverse situation (that a lot of our officers are seeing today,) you never truly know how an individual, (or even you,) is/are going to react. Recruiting these individuals to swear in and join the blue line brother/sisterhood isn't a terrible idea and here's why: They see first hand what is happening in their communities. They can feel the tension between civilians and officers. They want change, maybe they can help enact it. If we have more officers joining up who have the right mindset, as well as a pre-existing knowledge of what is really going on, perhaps they stand a better chance with improving community relations. There's only one way to find out. As far as the actual shootings/incidents are concerned; Keep training. Don't ever stop training. Prepare for the worst, but hope for the best. Some, not all departments definitely need revisions on their training. At the same time, media bias and constant negative portrayal of our officers is only a detriment to the situation as a whole. Police officers often do great things for their communities. Lets not lose sight of that amidst the chaos. Officers also mess up sometimes, and should be punished accordingly, when and 'if' the crime fits.

It is just hard to please everybody. I get it Police must do their best but society in general needs to do something as well. You cannot just pass the ball to them.

Honestly, it is just ridiculously hard to comprehend/accommodate the needs of millions! Everybody needs to help on this issues...

Dallas PD's problems run so much deeper and for longer than recruiting protesters can ever resolve, even if they could pass a comprehensive background check (unless it's waived). This article is dated approximately 5 weeks before 5 officers were murdered. "Sources say so many officers are leaving the department that the personnel office can’t process the paperwork quickly enough, and they are telling officers they have to wait to quit." As a former LEO, I'm just sayin'...

PVT Private RallyPoint Member it seems as though individuals with the most opinions and ideas about policing do not work in policing. If you think you can do a better job, show me. Great response to reporters and media in general. Nationally interest in policing is at an all time low, and police killed in the line of duty is at a record setting pace. Current false narratives to some of the police shootings have been proved false, yet public opinion still believes the incorrect narrative. Sad times all around.
