Do we run every day at BCT/AIT? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/do-we-run-every-day-at-bct-ait

I have shin splints. I could tough it out for BCT but I need time to recover afterwards. Should I try to get my ship date pushed back? I just don't want to make the injury irreparably worse because I go to Airborne and then RASP in August/September once I'm done w/ AIT. If you're new to running you'll most likely get them. You need to be careful though. Shin splints can develop into stress fractures. Basic is going to have a lot of running and other various physical activities.
Go see a doctor. See if you have stress fractures.
If you have shin splints, you need to run a lot more. Make sure you have the proper footware and stretch plenty. You will not attend attend BCT. You will go to OSUT (One Station Unit Training.)

The PRT program is intended to condition your body for basic mobility and fitness, but if you aren’t there you should be honest with yourself. Do yourself a favor and get a copy of FM 7-22 and familiarize yourself with the exercises and drills. Remember that you have a pull up event for both Airborne and the RPFT. Dead hang, palms away from you. The RPFT also has a 5 mile run which has hills on the course. You’ll run or ruck roughly three times a week and focus on core / strength two days a week on average.

It will suck regardless. 90% of your possible success is mental. If you’re mentally limiting yourself- that’s what you can expect as far as performance.

Good luck! Find a real running shop and have them diagnose your stride and step. I have an over pronation and my shins were killing me when I started running long distances. I got the advice above and stopped at a shop that specialized in athletic shoes. They looked my step and suggest some different shoes, shin splints went away within a couple of weeks. Typically contract are time limited even if you sign them, you may not be able to get into the program you want if you push the date back, especially since RASP typically has a wait time. When I went through my options, I had everything open including Seals for the Navy, but it had a 2 year waiting list. Again, it could be different but special programs usually have wait times. As far as running everyday it’s usually limited to every other day with muscle failure in between for core and upper body. Keep in mind though you do a lot of other stuff in between morning PT.
