Joshua Chase7276485<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Hi, I'm currently 17 and in high school graduating in December. My ship date for Basic is May 17th and I have sworn in as a 25S. That wasn't the job I really wanted but I settled for it because of how it should treat me in the civilian world. I really wanted to do 15W because I like flight simulators of the sort. My recruiter told me I could reenlist while I'm in the Army to the 15W job but I don't know how accurate and true this is. I also as of now want to do some form of Special Forces but I don't know if these jobs are available to SF is there anywhere I could check to see if they are? Many thanks!Do reenlisted soldiers get 1st Job choice?2021-09-17T09:16:44-04:00Joshua Chase7276485<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Hi, I'm currently 17 and in high school graduating in December. Your recruiter isn't wrong but you also need to understand the recruiters perspective. They have a monthly quota to meet to get new folks signed up and shipped to boot camp. You getting the MOS you want is less important to the recruiter because they just need you to ship.Response by SSgt Christophe Murphy made Sep 17 at 2021 10:00 AM2021-09-17T10:00:59-04:002021-09-17T10:00:59-04:00SFC Private RallyPoint Member7276608<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Special Forces is it's own MOS. You have to pass the selection for it. Anyone can apply.<br />You "can" change your MOS when it's time to reenlist but there is no guarantee that what you want will be available. Chances are what you wanted might not have even been available when you went to the MEPS.Response by SFC Private RallyPoint Member made Sep 17 at 2021 10:02 AM2021-09-17T10:02:01-04:002021-09-17T10:02:01-04:00SSG Private RallyPoint Member7276838<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>25S? OOOOOFFFFF........yeah on the civilian side that is gonna get you lots of $$$$ plus I think it comes with a TS so that will open a lot of doors.<br /><br />But as far as the cool guy Army stuff, you wont see any of it. You will do weapons qual on your rifle, but thats it.<br />For going SF you can apply at any time after you hit the time in servies and rank requirements, regardless of what your MOS is...BUT you will be behind the power curve, because you will already need to have certain combat related skills to get selected for training. You can get those skills through the Army if you seek out people who have then to teach you...at a min read up on them (battle drills, land nav, patroling). <br />Now a commo back ground from an MOS like say....25S would be very helpful if you were to go for their commo MOS, as well as they do like to have guys cross trained in skills.Response by SSG Private RallyPoint Member made Sep 17 at 2021 11:15 AM2021-09-17T11:15:20-04:002021-09-17T11:15:20-04:00CWO3 Private RallyPoint Member7277587<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>It's a seller's market, so you take what you get.Response by CWO3 Private RallyPoint Member made Sep 17 at 2021 4:03 PM2021-09-17T16:03:27-04:002021-09-17T16:03:27-04:00MAJ Roland McDonald7278049<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Since your MOS is 25S. Communications are always essential. Thus almost all operations have backup systems in place in case primary comms go down. Having said that, my advice to you is to excel in your AIT. And while in AIT find out which units support special operations and request assignment to one of those units, basing your request on your exemplary performance during AIT. No guarantee but always plan ahead with multiple options, then work the plan. And the first place to start is your goals for joining and what you want to accomplish. Best of luck in your future.Response by MAJ Roland McDonald made Sep 17 at 2021 7:34 PM2021-09-17T19:34:51-04:002021-09-17T19:34:51-04:00SPC Margaret Higgins7278170<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div><a class="dark-link bold-link" role="profile-hover" data-qtip-container="body" data-id="1894786" data-source-page-controller="question_response_contents" href="/profiles/1894786-joshua-chase">Joshua Chase</a> Good Luck in Basic Training/Basic Combat Training.Response by SPC Margaret Higgins made Sep 17 at 2021 8:20 PM2021-09-17T20:20:07-04:002021-09-17T20:20:07-04:002021-09-17T09:16:44-04:00
