Do infantrymen get to handle dogs ?

If an infantrymen can handle dogs how would one go about doing this ?

NO- MP MOS you would have to re-enlist or reclass.

Haven't found any info on the Infantry having their own working dogs but the MPs do and the Engineers have the Engineer Mine Dog program.
For the Engineers the unit has to recommend the Soldier and they go to training here at FLW and are awarded an ASI. During the 05-07 Iraq rotation we received Mine Dog support from the 5th Engineer BN and they were very effective at locating weapons caches on route sanitization missions and explosives during transload site operations.

Short answer: No, that's a 31K job. Hopefull answer: if you're on deployment and you get in good with a certain detachment of dog handlers and they need a body and your unit says ok. Not likely but, I've worked with K9s. On my first deployment as an 11C.

Not sure but it is a thing... Ive known Infantryman who have deployed with dogs in their charge

We never handle dogs, but on deployment we got in good with the handler that supported us and got to put on the bite suit and be a training aid for his dog.

The only time infantrymen handle dogs is when they get dogs assigned to them on deployment

SGT Private RallyPoint Member MPs, Engineers and SoF are the ones that use dogs. You would have to reclass to be a dog handler.

I do not know their MOS, but we had dog scout platoons in the Nam. Handlers got CIBs, but there were a lot of different criteria for CIBs back then. For example, MACV advisory teams got CIBs even if they were not Infantry MOS. That was popular with ADA officers as there was only one HAWK Bn in RVN (Long Binh) and there weren't many Duster units. So a lot ended up on MACV teams. Not looked at regs lately but I think only Infantry and SF types get them now because of the CAB.

You need a spleen and a good gt score but like others have said 31k chances of it being available are low
