Do I have to wear a PT belt with my PT's inside a civilian gym after duty hours (before I go home.)

No you do not. But when you walk out to the car if its at night then you need to have it on.. Its also been proven that PT belts help you lift more weight!...... IN the end if your unit says its part of the uniform then I would have it on when I left the gym but not while I was in the gym working out. Even if I was on base I would not have it on if I was in the gym working out.

Do you need one off duty when crossing the street at night off base?

If it is required for your PT gear, simple solution, don't wear PT gear to the civilian gym, problem solved.

Wow that's crazy that anyone would even think to make that a requirement... There a reason you're going in uniform anyways? I suspect the answer to your question would depend a lot on local policy and if any NCO who sees you feels like making it an issue. Going in civvies would solve all your problems.

If the local command has mandated it as part of the uniform, then yes.
Otherwise, no. It is not an organic part of the APFU.
If it was me, I'd wear civilian workout gear in the civilian gym.

Aside from question of PT belt you should, and many others. should also be commended for working out on your 'own time'. Any organization, military or otherwise, appreciates it when a member does a little extra or goes a little beyond minimum requirements.

You should just ask the senior specialist at your unit. He will square you away.

Why would you go through the trouble of changing from ACUs to your PTs after duty hours to go to a civilian gym? None of the females there will care at all. Especially if you wear a PT belt.

Just wear workout clothes to work out off duty at a civilian gym.

In direct contrast of everyone else's helpful suggestions... I am going to have to disagree.

I personally wear my reflective belt at all times. You can never be too careful, and it solves the problem of "what if a car is coming and I'm asleep?" "What if my friends cant find me at the bar?" "What if I'm just not sure I can pull of that cool new look all the kids are wearing these days?"

Wear the reflective belt, and everything will be illuminated.

You need to go to your installations home page and look into your local command policies. Every installation is different. At Fort Leonard Wood you are not authorized to where the PT uniform anywheres off post. The only exception is stopping to pump gas and pick up something from the convenient store. Wear civilian gym attire. Two questions though.......
Why the hell aren't you using the FREE gym on post?
How the hell do you afford a gym membership? I didn't make squat when a was a PFC. Livin in the barracks eating Ramen just so we could by some Natty Ice!!!!

Why spend money on a membership at a civilian gym when the base gym is free? Unless you don't want to wear your PT belt at the base gyum, LOL.

It depends on Post Policy. Some installations require PT belts worn at all times when in PT's. Some direct that they are only required during operational hours.
