Do I have to attend AIT prior to submitting my OCS packet since my MOS will change anyway after becoming an officer?

Most likely you’ll be told to hold your packet until AIT is over. However, since the Army is known for weird things, don’t hesitate on asking your chain of command.

What is your status? Are you pre basic training? If so, why not just college op into OCS? Once in, technically you can submit your OCS packet at any time but you compete among all the other prior service candidates most of which are NCOs already with a decent amount of prior service experience. So if you haven’t gone to basic yet and you want to be an officer, I would revisit with the recruiter and ask to go the college op route. If you are post BCT and waiting for an AIT slot or you are in AIT, there is no rule that I know of that states you can’t submit a packet. However, you must have the support of your chain of command. They may be reluctant to support an AIT student for this. It isn’t a bad thing to do a few years enlisted before going officer. I credit my 7 years enlisted time with a lot of the success experienced as an officer.
