Do hospital medics deploy?

I'm about to end my contract, but retentionnis bugging me to stay in. My career councillor asked me what my reason for leaving was, and I told him that in my 4 years I've missed 3 with my boys due to training and two deployments. He answered with why not reenlist for a hospital position. Do hospital medics not deploy ornworry about extensibe field problems? Ive been a line medic my whole career. Thanks.

Nope I have been at irwin at fort Riley for two year and we gone to the field once for three days max. The only way to get deployed is too get on a list

They could pull you from a hospital position if the Army need to, though from all the medics I've talked that were on active duty its not common.

You could consider going to the army reserve if you want to stay a medic and keep the military benefits. Also depending on what unit you are in you're less liable to deploy. Also being in the reserve you tend to have a lot more notice of an upcoming mission so you get to plan a lot more ahead for your family.

It is very rare to deploy from a hospital setting unlees your on the PROFIS list I think that is what is called. It will be a big change in environment in how things work in medcom compared to tradoc though but its worth it if you are planning to stay in the military. I was in the same position as you spent my first 4 years in FORSCOM and loved it but was never at home with the wife and kids. I get to spend significant amount of time with them now and get to go home every day to my bed no field problems or deployments in the last 2 years since I been at the hospital.

They can on a volunteer basis. It’s called “PROFIS”....but if your not that then your chilling in the hospital.

In reality there is no such thing as a hospital medic. The army MAY Assighn you to a hospital but there is no guarantee that you will stay in the hospital longer than the designated PCS. if you are given an opportunity to make a rota in a hospital. You may consider changing mos to 68C (LVN). If you wish to consider a military career involved with hospital duty. Other wise go reserve or guard.

Depends on whether not you get attached to a field hospital.

If you are assigned to a TOE hospital, that hospital could be deployed or you might be pulled as an individual (based on a requirement for your MOD).
