Do college transcripts have to be sealed to be accepted by S1 and updated on my ERB?

I printed my college transcript at home and took it to my s1 to have it updated to my erb but the SSG working there wouldn’t accept it because it wasn’t sealed. However, A couple of semesters ago, a SGT did accept the transcript in the same format this one was. Do they really have to be sealed in order to be accepted? I’ve looked everywhere I could think of, but can’t find answers.

I've never heard of an official transcript being necessary. If this were so, SMs would be paying for transcripts every semester, which would be ridiculous.

No way, college transfers require sealed documents.

You could have a 4-Star general here tell you they they are not required, but if the SSG that is going to be the one to execute the action of updating your ERB says they are, well then that's that.

I recommend getting sealed transcripts by the half dozen and just have them on hand. You never know when an employer or job application will required it (usually government jobs).

I enlisted at 38, and had to go ALL THE WAY BACK to my high school for my transcripts from 1991, even in the face of the fact at that time I entered the military with an MBA, 2-BS degrees and 1-AA then yea having recent official transcripts is not the end of the world.

Yes in fact they are. That's so that Soldiers can't Adobe Pro them and add a few extra semester hours or grades. While someone may have accepted some transcripts that were not sealed, it doesn't mean that's what they were supposed to do. Sealed transcripts have been the rule for several years now

For years I just brought in my transcripts, then one year I had to submit actual transcripts. Of course the Service is not paying for them so that is money out of your pocket, but it may be the points you need to get ahead, so it is money well spent.

There is no Army Regulation that requires the documents to be sealed for the S-1 update.
AR 600-8-104, Required document List, has been published to standardize rules for uploading transcripts to Soldier's iPERMS record (AMHRR/OMPF).
1. Educational institution seal, watermark, or letterhead.
2. If conferring degree is listed, need type of degree (e.g. associates, bachelors, masters) and date the degree was awarded.
3. Educational institution official's stamp or signature.

These are the ONLY requiements.

The Army actually published a MILPER that specifically states that transcripts do NOT have to be sealed specifically because S-1's keep doing this.
