Benjamin Franklin's proposed Great Seal of the United States...

Franklin chose an allegorical scene from Exodus, described in his notes as "Moses standing on the Shore, and extending his Hand over the Sea, thereby causing the same to overwhelm Pharaoh who is sitting in an open Chariot, a Crown on his Head and a Sword in his Hand. Rays from a Pillar of Fire in the Clouds reaching to Moses, to express that he acts by Command of the Deity." Motto, "Rebellion to Tyrants is Obedience to God."

I did and I understand why it wasn't selected. What I don't understand is why so few people know this today. History is no longer taught other than dates and names it seems.

This is one I had not heard before. I believe that he was in favor of the turkey as the national bird in favor over the eagle (and it would have been a good choice except that it would have ruined Thanksgiving for us - imagine eating eagle). It's probably a good thing that his suggestion for the Great Seal was likewise rejected. I can well imagine heads exploding had the Left been confronted with this on a daily basis.
