Did you know there is a system in place to avert your child being taken outside the United States?

Many service members marry foreign nationals, sometimes things don't work out leading to a happily ever after situation. If you are in this type of situation did you know about:
"Parents may enroll their U.S. citizen children under the age of 18 in the Children’s Passport Issuance Alert Program (CPIAP), one of the Department of State’s most important tools for preventing international parental child abduction. If a passport application is submitted for a child who is enrolled in the CPIAP, the program allows the Department of State, Office of Children’s Issues to contact the requesting parent(s) to verify whether the parental consent requirement for minors has been met."

CPT (Join to see) I'm definitely not in this situation. My children are all old enough to leave the country on their own. LOL! I still know a lot of individuals that this could apply to though. Good information - thanks for sharing.

Marriage is expressed parental privilege.
Marriage partners do not need permission to move their minors about.
At least in the US.
So, from the US, one partner can move your child (assuming joint custody) to a country that does grant extradition to that child. Like taking a child from the US to the Middle East, here the father's opinion is supreme.

SPC Jan Allbright, M.Sc., R.S. - They cannot get a passport to do so without the presence and consent of of both parents. This prevents one parent from acquiring or renewing a passport without the other parent's consent. It doesn't matter if there is Joint custody or not.
