The bad blood between the US and Iran is very much a two way street and both countries have to appear to have come out on top to their respective people.

Another possibility is "opportunity wasted." How much of that is due to Iran being obnoxious and how much of it is congress's attempt to humiliate the POTUS/Iran and derail the whole thing before they even knew the contents of the talk? Congress will have to make their decision. What are we discussing anyway?
Should active duty be debating or supporting their commander in chief decision?
As far as what Iran does, it is there decision. We know politician are full of rhetoric, I would expect no less from politician in Iran. I do not know any reasonable mind that calculated Iran will invade US or seek war with US. We can all rest assured that Iran will look after its interests (which may not be in US's interest).
on a debating point, I think this issue is simple. What is the cost to the US for not signing this deal vs the cost to signing this deal? For sure, the world is moving against US as the hegemonic power. By the way it is only hegemonic if people don't understand it. I believe the only people blind to US imperial power is American citizens. The cost of being abandoned by every relevant power on the negotiation table may be a high price, and the only thing to gain is our pompous virtue? What have US gained by alienating Iran, one of the major power block in Middle East.

Really now, if US were to let Isreal and Saudi goes under the bus and get vanished tomorrow, and US gained Iran. It would not be a bad thing in the farthest foreseeable future. Foreign policy probably look for more incremental step than such existential measures. In the end, the most likely outcome will be reality. US can be a part of the new reality, or vanish with the unrealistic expectation. We add in morals, virtues, politics, and it is messy. I hope you all can appreciate my simplicity SSgt Khanh Pham Thu, 30 Jul 2015 13:42:21 -0400 2015-07-30T13:42:21-04:00 Response by MSgt James Mullis made Jul 30 at 2015 2:48 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/did-you-know-nuclear-deal-won-t-change-iran-s-policy-towards-the-arrogant-u-s-government?n=855314&urlhash=855314

I think we just took a currently difficult situation and traded it in for a future disaster. I was shocked to hear that the deal provides Iran with close to 150 billion dollar. Which is more money than the U.S. has given in total aid to Israel since 1948. It appears that we took what was essentially a local theocratic dictatorship and gave them the resources to build capabilities that, in a fairly short number of years, can cause great harm to the interests of the United States. The deal also sounds more like appeasement to me than an agreement for common good of our two nations. However, according to Secretary Kerry, there are parts to the agreement that are Classified and we won't hear about them anytime soon. Hopefully they cover areas that make the deal worth the risk.
