Did you expect Donald Trump to actually keep this promise of building a wall?

Of course the promise to build a GREAT WALL got this person elected. He has been blowing smoke for years and many were blinded by it. Well, here you go. More wasted money from the tax payers.
Do we really need a commander and chief who has no idea how politics works? A man who makes outrageous promises.

This is the problem with only listening to “sound bites” and reading, exclusively, from liberal sites. Trump did say he’d make Mexico pay for it. However, when pressed on details, I remember him talking about the “unfair” trade deficit between the U.S. and Mexico. He said that by “adjusting” this deficit, Mexico would “pay” for the wall. We all know that he makes ridiculous statements that a more seasoned politician wouldn’t make. I would rather see his team renegotiate the trade deals, first. But to get “the wall” started, it will have to come from our coffers. We will have to wait and see if his promises are more effective than promises like closing Gitmo.

It was already voted on an the money was allocated. Before Trump. Yes but the only way I see Mexico paying is by charging a dollar to cross. How the Coronado Bridge was paid for.

They already charge $1.50 to cross the bridge in each direction. The bridges are paid for, now it's mostly profit. Several of the bridges here in the Rio Grande Valley are private enterprise, and the owners are making a nice penny out of it, and good for them.

How many Presidents have actually followed through with their campaign promises? If he gets half he is still doing better than Obama. I for one am going to wait till he actually becomes President before I pass judgement. Might be just a bit early to make a call on the next 4 years.

I have not seen a truly great President in my life time. I have seen Presidents rise to the moment and show flashes of brilliance, but never overall greatness. Some come to mind, but I am not positive that time has not put a lot of make up on their warts. I guess the greatest President would be the one in charge during a period of peace, progress, and prosperity, and people don't even think much about who is sitting in the White House. He is so effective and low profile that people wonder why we even have a President.
My metrics are completely subjective. But here is how I evaluate a President and his performance.
1) How well he deals with “political forces” during his administration. These include political entities like his own party, the opposition party, the press, the military, unions, foreign countries/leaders, special interest groups, etc. etc.
_Can he build consensus or does he foment division among differing factions? When he decides against a political force, do they fell well-heard but honestly disagreed with or do they fell stampeded?
_Is he intellectually honest and does he bring out intellectual honesty from both his supporters and his detractors?
_Does he “weaponize” the investigatory and regulatory arms of the executive branch or does he expect them to do what is right regardless of the impact on his supporters and detractors?
_Does he pick winners and losers, or does he let the free market decide?
2)How well he anticipates and deals the circumstances of the day, the expected and unexpected events, situations, and crises.
_Does he strike the appropriate balance between gathering information and the need for immediate comment or action?
_Are his responses to events appropriate, measured, and successful?
_Are his responses based on what is best for the nation and free from consideration of what is best for his party?
_Do his responses calm the waters or generate anxiety and tension?
_Is he decisive? Is he straight speaking? Is he forthright? Is he morally courageous? Does he Delay? Does he obfuscate? Can he admit failure? Does the buck stop with him? Does he hold people accountable?
_Is he quick to observe, orient, decide, and act to changing situations? Is he humble enough to adjust when a plan is not working?
3) What is the reality government presence on our lives?
_Do the people and commercial entities feel that Federal government unnecessarily frustrates their aspirations, or creates a supportive environment?
_Does his administration understand the law of diminishing returns vs. economic costs of governmental regulation?
_Does his administration have respect for the Constitution, and the limits of governmental authority?

Well, ya but will it be a physical wall? Most likely not; was there ever actually an Iron Curtain? While I'm not a particular fan of Trump I believe his philosophy of changing how things have been done will have an impact on many programs, including immigration. Good or bad, he's ours for the next four years at least and we can expect to see many changes in how politics and government programs in general are conducted.

Like him or not, the "wall" may or may not be built by or by not using our tax dollars and if used may or may not be recuperated from Mexico. Only time will tell

One of the factors that I liked about Trump and drew me to pull for him early on in his presidential campaign was the he was not a politician. It was time for new blood for this nation and a person who isn't in someone's pocket, or that can be "bought", and someone who is not afraid to be politically incorrect or "tell it like it is". I do believe that President-elect Trump will do his best to make the kind of changes this country needs to make it great again. As for the wall..... he's the only one that's I feel has actually be genuinely serious about it.

I recall not too long ago, Mr. Bush promised a fence between the Mexico-US border. What happened? What caused the construction to stop? That's right, environmental regulations to name one of the several law suits that prevented the construction. This is about the lack of knowledge of the citizens who voted for Trump believing his exaggerated promises. It is clear that Mr. Trump does know how to please the crowds to get his way, but I am not sure if he is aware that there are several obstacles to building his great wall. Wild life, environmental laws, clean water act, Native American Nations territories, etc. I understand many here believe Trump is equal to the all mighty and will build the wall, and Mexico will pay for it. The reality, it probably there will be no wall, just more hot air coming out Trump's mouth.
