Working out of your home can be a blessing and a total disaster if you don’t approach it the right way. I can tell you that after spending 37 years in the military in a hurry up and wait mode I have the discipline to knock out a productive day!

Except for today, because I’m on RallyPoint right now!

If are lucky enough to own your own business or work out of the house, did the military provide you with the right discipline and self-starter aptitude to work 6 to 7 hours a day without playing hooky every other day!

I work out of the house and utilize a lot of these tips. I’m sure there are more out there that can be added to the list. Let’s give our military in transition brothers and sisters something to think about as the move forward into civilian life.

Definitely! In my current position, I telework an average of 2-3 days per week. Not only do I get my own work done, but I also supervise the work of my team (who are either in the office or teleworking).

The military gave me some of the tools -- and a lot of the motivation -- but the discipline originated internally, COL Mikel J. Burroughs.

COL Mikel J. Burroughs Yes, I happen to be working from home today, normally in the office. Bottom line: We are held accountable to results, however your company or boss defines it. My day does not stop 8-5, I must address all traffic in my lane 24/7. I suspect many folks jobs are just like that.
