Did my active duty contract and went reserve. I’m now wanting to transfer to the IRR. How hard is this process going to be?

Can I transfer to IRR from Reserves? | RallyPoint

I ets’d last May 2020 4 yrs AD then went to the reserves and signed a contract for the remaining 4 years, but now I don’t want to go back to the reserves. I haven’t done inprocess but I’m in the system now. Can I transfer to IRR again? What would happen if I just don’t go to drills? Will I lose my education benefits ( I’m currently using GI Bill) ?

You need to make contact with your Retention NCO and Commander about this.

It's not hard. Check with your ARA. They will need to pull the IRR transfer checklist from ePAT. The 4187 will go through the chain of command and must be endorsed by the first GO in your chain. After that, it's forwarded to the RD for transfer orders. Estimate 30 days processing time at each echelon.

My son was able to do it, but it was a lot of hassle in his unit. Still, he got the paperwork through and higher command approved it.
