Debating direct commissioning as a nurse in the Guard. I have my degree, I am 2 years into a 6-year contract. Any pointers/experience?

I am a nurse civillian side. I love my job and I am looking to commission. Does anyone have any pointers or things they can disclose that might help make the transition painless?

RN with a BSN or higher? It is all about the needs of the NG and for AD the Defense Health Agency (DHA). Few years back when DHA first took over they were cutting some 1800 healthcare positions so to direct commission then would have been nearly unheard of. The guard has relatively few RNs and the vast majority outside of AD are in USAR.

Don't forget to consider a commission in the US Public Health Service. They provide valuable service to underserved communities and also respond to disasters here and outside the US.
